Childhood as a period of innocence and play is an invention of the19th and 20th centuries, and then only for the children of the upper and middle classes. Historically, once you could walk and not fall down you were put to work. If anything, we shield our children now more than we ever did in the past.

On the contrary, I think that children think they are growing up, but that is because they are given a little too much freedom. They are doing all these grown up things, but they don't have the values or the wisdom to do it the right way. Respecting you children is one thing. Giving them control over certain things that they are oblivious to is quite another.

Being a child from the 90's, I would definitely say that children are growning up faster and faster. But on the contrary, it is not benificial to protect your children from it, because what you are not willing to teach your kid, someone at school will.

Faster in regard to society and innocence.
But man, most are immature, and have no stable values.

And have you seen the growth rate? I think it's all the junk food, kids are getting shorter and shorter

I think that the answer is yes.
Thanks to popular media such as celebrities, musicians, etc, they're being taught to dress, act, and speak more maturely than they're ready for and the result is a 12 year old looking and acting like a hooker because she likes Britney Spears.

no, actually in comparison to the past they are growing slower. it used to be the perfect age for a girl to marry was 16 and she was expected to have a child by 20. men were usually married around 18 to 20.

i guess it all depends, i mean we really are influenced by totally different things then the generation before us, it doesnt mean we are growing up to quickly, just by different standards
