You run a hard bargain ;) My kids get rewarded for good grades. Not always money, unless they want to buy something special. Or sometimes I just buy it for them as a reward. But I do make it clear to them what the real reason for getting good grades is: So that you are able to get into a good college someday and be able to be financially secure and have a good life.
I guess it's kind of like insentive. Kinda like having to go to work...you do it because you get paid. Giving kids money for good grades is also like a lesson in real life. Work hard and you 'earn' your money.

I lived with my aunt and uncle for about 2 years while in high school. Although I was always a straight A student they paid me $100 for an A $50 for a B $0 for a C. I owed them #50 for a D and I owed them $100 for an F.
Being I was not allowed to have a job it was great to have the extra money to spend elsewhere since I didn't get paid for chores. It was the only money I was ever given. I didn't get money to just go to the mall or the movies, etc. I had to earn my play money, and they chose grades as that thing. They paid for my clothes and that because those are things you NEED. Anything I wanted I had to pay for.
I think it worked great. I will definitely do it for my children.

I find it hard to believe that someone with your *ahem* questionable grasp of spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and sentence structure receives straight As.
I say this as a teacher.
However, as for the point of the question, I do believe it's acceptable for parents to give their children "rewards" for earning good grades. I also believe it's acceptable for parents to punish their children for earning poor grades. However, it shouldn't be taken to the extreme. I can understand rewarding a child each report card or so, but I don't understand parents who do it EVERY single time the child receives a good mark. Children need to learn that there are other rewards in life besides money and/or material items.

no i don think u should be paid to get good grades, keeping your grades up is a good thing,if u wanted a reward u sholud look for a badge or certificate ,try and to talk to someone at your school about having an awards day,on that day a badge or certificate will be given to child with the highest average in a subject at the end of a term and i guarantee u will have a lot of children grades going up because they will want a badge or certificate as well.

Yes I give my daughter $50 for every A and $25 for every B. C's are only $5. Anything lower then that is worth nothing and an F will deduct $10.00 from any of the above grades. Incentives are always good.

I don't think it's a bad idea to get money for good grades. You should get some sort of reward for your hard work. But money should not be the only motivating factor of getting good grades.

My parents did it with me and I am doing the same with my kids. I think of it as your payment for hard work just like adults in the workforce. Going to school is your job and you should receive some kind of compensation for your efforts. Yes, your parents supply you with lodging, clothes, food, and goodies you want. It's our responsibility to provide you with the necessities. Wants and extras you earn and it sounds like you do. Keep up with your household chores and do stuff without being told or reminded.

Yeah i think it's fair. I'm in high school, and I get money too. It's definitely a great incentive, and a lot of people do get money.

I got paid for good grades while in high school. I see nothing wrong with it. I will reward my children too when they are that age.
And BTW my husbands grandma pays each child $500 after they graduate from high school. I thought that was cool.

I didnt make all A's in high school, although my mother did always say if I did she would pay me for every A... this always got me to try harder. I think it is a good incentive to get your kids to do good in school. I mean trying to focus in class with all your friends sitting beside you, talking to you is already hard enough...why not reward your kids for being above average..
