Why did the Immigrants from Ukraine pick Canada to come to live in???

I have 2 friends that moved from Ukraine to America 14 yrs ago. They were fairly young when they moved here, but as far as I know, at the time, Ukraine's economy was very bad, and going down hill. They had nothing, and came here with nothing. It might be easier for them to go to Canada, because it is less strict there. Also they have free health insurance, and who wouldnt like that?! Plus, George Bush is not there! What other reason do you need besides that ?!!!

Because we're better than the US. Why? Let's see: free education, free health care, not the constant threat of "terrorism" because our government and military are more "peacemakers" than actual combatants, the federal leader is actually educated and is still young enough to be with the times to know what's going on, and we use the metric system like the rest of the world. That's just the tip of the iceberg....
