It's not simply the word. It is the horrible insult that the word represents which is the issue. It is demeaning and insulting to the African-American community.

I know, right? I was at a pep rally and a girl behind me in the bleachers wanted to get down, so they were trying to get my attention. But no one tapped me on the shoulder and said "Excuse me, could you move a bit, my friend needs to get down.", they kept saying, "Hey girl! Hey! Girl!!". Now besides the fact I didn't hear them, what kind of way is that to address someone you do't even know? Well anyway, I finally got the message, then after the girl left one of the "ladies" that was trying to get my attention early said, "Stupid little white b*tch." her friend clapped her hand over the offensive one's nouth, but not in time. I turned and I almost screamed, "Don't you EVER call me stupid you idiotic black asshole! I'm twice the human being you'll EVER be!" But I refrained from doing thus because I knew that if I didn't say something like that I'd get in trouble for a "hate crime" or being a "racist" when I was just defending myself.
No, I'm not all that tolerant. But I can stand idiot black, white, asian, mexian and whatever else type of person you throw my way /unless/ they decide to voice their stupidity. Then? They're fair game.
Why is it that parents can't seem to teach their children any sort of MANNERS!?

People are blowing this out of proportion. There is a racist double standard in this country and it's sickening. If you ever watch uncensored black comedians they refer to white people as crackers, cracker devils, honkey, white bread and who knows what else and not a thing is ever brought up about these racist terms. But the very minute a white person uses a term like this he is crucified. We need to all follow the same standards or use no standards at all. If I was him I wouldn't have even apologized.

First of all you weren't there. Did you watch the footage? The "n" word was not really the big deal. He referenced lynching (learn your history) and said, "this is what happens when you interrupt a white man." It was more than just calling someone the "n" word. But all that aside audience members should not get cursed out by someone they PAID to see peform.

I think it was blown a bit out of proportion, however, there are some reason's I agree that it is a problem. First off, he said that was the first thing he could come up with and the first thing out of his mouth. What? That shouldn't be the first thing out of anyone's mouth. Secondly, he said it was because some guys were heckling him. He's a freakin' comedian. Comedian's get heckled often. He should be used to it. And even so, maybe he could have called them assholes rather than a negative racial-slur.

It's not just a word. Michael Richards was not trying to be humorous, he was being ignorant and hurtful, and anyone who could say that it's just a word is as ignorant as Richards is.

Yes get over it, but its not just a word, when its said with anger and emotion it is more than a word. think if the worst thing you could be called was and was done in public just because...you wouldn't like it very much either.

Got him in the spotlight for a while right? Quick way to get your self on the headlines. You can always apologize. People love to forgive.

He just lost it...he's got deeper issues...they just accumulated and blew up under the circumstances...I know he is devestated over it so cut the poor guy a break. He pretty well will never get over this as it is.
