.. but there are all over the West?

How can we teach the Middle East to be more civilized and bring them out of the bronze age?

...and no, there are not. Otherwise, how can you account for what goes on over there.

fiji: that wouldn't be true if the British hadn't first helped to civilize it.

Go move to Saudi Arabia or Iran and see how your quality of life dwindles.

Most countries have the laws you mention; they will vary from one country to another. Unfortunately as in the west there are differences over what is just. For example in parts of the US it's seen as acceptable to execute teenagers with learning difficulties in other parts of the US and in Europe this is seen as barbaric.
Another issue is that people break the law; again this happens all over the world.
On top of that you have the people in control who have a vested interest in preventing change; again this applies to the the west as well as the east.

What countries are you talking about?
I'm a Canadian citizen and i'm currently living in the middle east - in the United Arab Emirates. And there are plenty of animal cruelty laws, child abuse laws, and laws that protect women. This is a Sharia'a law (Islam) country and there are plenty of laws protecting everyone living here. So pull your prejudicial head out of your as*s and know what you're talking about before you comment.

Wow, you got a couple of angry a s s clowns there. There are laws for the stuff you listed. Look on-line for more information. And as some of the other answers show, their religion seems to make them very angry. I'm not sure why, but it seems to.

There are. Your hypothesis is invalid.
