Its probably an extremely miserable and stressful place to work. We used to have a Kmart around here but because their corp. is going bankrupt they all closed out around the state... I remember them having bad customer service but think about how many people they deal with each day.. I can't imagine that it's an easy task to deal with all of those people. Because if a customer is rude then I think an employee has the right to be rude back.

I personally never thought about this- when saying thank you on the phone and not getting a response back. Hmmm. Most of the rudeness I've experienced was in person at a place. Once a pizza joint here in Cali, some lady wouldn't sit a friend and I in the back- she said it was for large parties. This was 7pm at night and a tuesday night. She was very rude so we left. Sometimes being forceful on the phone is a must to get your point across. I had a stupid online school calling me for about 3 weeks- they would call early in the morning (time zone difference and I guess they were dumb) then early evening- 2 times a day for 3 weeks. I thought they would get the message after someone not ever picking up, but eventually I gave in, picked and said very rude to the lady "Stop calling. I'm not interested and I want you to take me off this list." I really don't know what the fine-line is, but we are all different too. If it's on the phone, don't take it to personally. In public, that's a bit different cuz u don't want to be made to look like an idiot or belittled for no reason

Many consumers value low prices over all other aspects of making a purchase. This lowers wages for in-store workers. Lower wages mean that less people want to work the job. So, stores are forced to keep employees that they know are not very good because they do not have the resources to replace them.
An economic point of view.

Customer service is bad all over. But we have to take it in stride. I suggest you have a laugh. Go the the following webpage, and listen to Shirley Q. Liquor's story about K-Mark.

well lest start off with they get paid the lowest amount of money, that alone makes them upset....( not an excuse though )..
and seeing that they are at the education level of the highest paid job they can get...now do you understand a little bit about them ( not an excuse though )..
and maybe they are afraid of losing their jobs to other people who work for sears....( again not an excuse, even more reason to be good )
maybe Martha Steward scares the living heck out of them and it is not really their fault at all..you know people who work under extreme pressure are not themselves...and if you had Martha Steward as your big boss, I bet we all would not act like ourselves ...maybe this is the excuse....Martha Steward is a hard person to work for...
and lastly, after all it is K-Mart...
good luck

The big red K really sucks in my town too !!
Bad service if any available at all, slow lines and not a very clean store.
I usually avoid it at all costs.
