I have looked at the answers already given and the common factor is that there is not one mention that it is a celebration of the birth of Jesus. Having nice thing to eat and a few to many drinks is all great and I am there with everybody else. It is sad that the meaning of Christmas is lost on 80% of the population. Other religions excepted. It has become a time of over indulgence and over spending.
It would be great if we could go back to the way it used to be. Christmas goods in the shops from December 1st, and no television. We had wonderful times. Christmas always started with a Christmas day service then home to a drink or two, mince pies and then lunch at 2.00pm. Sleep from 4 till 6 then get the cold meats and pickles, all home made, out with the Christmas Cake to follow.
Then games. Nothing serious but loads of laughs.

Hello,
Do you really want to know?, as an atheist I hate xmas its a total & complete pain in the posterior, & the sooner its done & forgotten for another year the better.
**All that pressure and insanity to spend money on utter material rubbish that most people dont want or need, that has such extremely limited value in making people happy. Xmas no! sorry if you cancel it completely the world you be a better place for it IMO. But there again perhaps I'm just odd being an atheist of course?
**Sorry! NOT everyone likes Xmas, it can be a very sad & lonely time of year for ALOT of people. for example the elderly on their own, people who have been seperated because of wars, or because they left their countries to work else where, etc, etc its a long list and I could go on.
**Perhaps I'm just a grumpy cynical bloke?

Absolutely nothing!
Seriously - I was brought up by Jehovah's witnesses, who do not celebrate Xmas! So no parties, no pressies, all through my childhood! Sad, ain't it!!
But it did mean that I did not associate anything special with 25th Dec. Now I am an atheist, and although I do exchange cards and presents with friends out of social compliance, the day itself has no special meaning other than a chance to rake in some overtime!

An inconvenient time of year when normal arrangements are disrupted and time and money are both wasted. The Jews' Passover greeting is 'Well over the Passover'. I consider this most appropriate for Christmas.

It is the birth of Jesus Christ.
God gave his only begotten son, so that we will not perish but have ever lasting life.....
We celebrate a life which was given for the redemption of sins and the reunion of God with Man.
