It's not Norton Anti-virus that is causing the problem. It's Norton Internet Security which is a firewall application.
Turning off the Windows Firewall isn't going to solve the problem, and it should be noted that the Windows Firewall is a firewall is the loosest sense of the word.
Uninstall ALL the norton and symantec applications using add/remove programs.
Then, go to www.avast.com and download the free security app. It contains an anti-virus program with email scanner and an internet traffic monitor.

Because u set the policy's to high. Try to see in the log what is your firewall blocking, and then try to lower the policy level, or manually add the applications that the firewall should let trough.

Read the help menu, you have to configure the firewall to let it know what programs are ok.
There should be a list of applications, and you should get to choose whether to block, ask or allow internet access.
Sign off the net and check it out.

You probably have the settings on High. Put it on medium or just make it so that it asks you wether you want to accept incoming connections or not. That way you can set it so that everytime you wanna use something it doesnt ask you about it bcuz it is already setup to let you use it.

you would normally go into settings and turn everything off, then it will ask you for how long? I usually put till next reset, as if your downloading chances are your going to reboot any way, or you can pick a time duration? They will all restore on a reboot any way, unless you pick "permanent".
