The real outlaws... the originals were Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard & Waylon Jennings. You could call the others outlaws but they weren't THE outlaws.

I think you named all of everyone I was think of!! CM today is nothing but glitz, glamor, and tight jeans with $1000 Stetson hats. Nothing is like what it used to be. CM artists used to talk about things that were taboo, but given the way things are today, nothing is close to the other genres available. So, sorry, no one is an "outlaw" any more. They're all Bush loving, wife loving, drug hating, and boohoo there's a tear in my stew performers now. And Kid Rock is NOT country!!!

cash, nelson, haggard, jennings & kristofferson fit the bill. 'outlaw' basically meant they were abandoned by, or rebelled against, the nashville plastic factory, which wanted slicker pop music by prettier faces. check out steve earle & jerry jeff walker. also 3 generations of hank williams.(senior, junior & III). hank garland is the moniker a certain famous artist used to make honky-tonk music of the outlaw persuasion.
