i have been torn for quite some time now. My daughter is a Vegetarian and I would like her over for Thanksgiving but I would love to do something different than eat a slaughtered Turkey in the name of human pleasure. I would like to go out to the woods with a bag of carrots and feed the wild animals who are probably starving by now instead of sitting at home stuffing myself until I throw up. Its a difficult decision thats for sure!

Don't listen to those rather rude *cough* comments. I am glad that someone actually cares about animals. I wish I was a vegetarian, but my family could not really keep up with that as meat is a big deal...But I believe that it is your choice. If I had a choice (which I don't) I would be out there tossing grain and other animal food for Thanksgiving. Turkey is tradition, but I just don't like the whole process of slaughter... And personally, I'm not much of a fan of turkey anywho. One thing I always tell myself though is that there is nothing I can do in the long run. Would I love to march up to the slaughterhouse and blow it up? Yeah! OK, not really. But I would love to stop all inhumane slaughter. Sadly though, my little voice ain't going to be heard very loudly. So, I just tell myself, that they are all ready gone. I can't turn back time. And if I don't use it, I'm wasting their life, making it worse. It is your decision, though. But maybe, you could skip the turkey and just have the veggies for that one day. And then maybe take a little trip to the woods to go on a nature walk and really be thank-full for what Mother Nature has to give.

Humans are carnivorous creatures. There is nothing wrong with eating a turkey. Animal populations would starve a cruel death if they were not maintained through hunting. There is not enough vegetables on the planet to feed the world should everyone decide to become a vegetarian. We have a daughter who tried all that vegetarian business with us and pushed her esotericism around but I still want my Porterhouse steaks. Different strokes for different folks.

How about "Tofurkey"? I don't know how you'd prepare it, but you can mold it into the SHAPE of a turkey...I think! My sis is a vegetarian, so she only eats the other traditional foods, not the turkey.

I like the idea of carrots and food for the wild animals...just be careful you don't lure them to your house! That's a huge problem in many areas, where bears, coyotes, and, out West, even mountain lions, come far too close to homes (which shouldn't be there in the first place!), then attack people.

Don't eat a slaughtered turkey. Fix everything you would normally have for dinner. Put it all in a cooler and take it with you. Chase the turkey down and eat off of it what you want and leave whats left for the starving animals.

There's much to be said for sitting in the living room after a full Thanksgiving meal so stuffed you think you might hurl...I'm one who wouldn't call the day Thanksgiving without just that feeling. Since you seem to have doubts as to whether of not you should do this or feed the squirrels, I vote feed the squirrels. You wouldn't know how to revel in the after dinner glow anyways.

There are more imporant animals to worry about then Turkey that God gave us to eat. Be Thankful what the food you got rather to question if your slaughtered turkey or cow or pig or chicken felt any pain. Geezo.

I love to eat slaughtered turkey. Their heads were cut off, they didn't suffer. I for one am not going into the woods to feed the wild animals when I could be grubbing on turkey.

Are you asking a question or disguising your judgments behind your supposed question??? If you don't want to eat turkey then don't! It's really not that difficult. Why don't you go live in the woods while your at it. I'm sure all the trees that were killed to make your home want their bodys back!

Look, animals eat other animals, that's it. In a few thousand years, humans will be dead and gone. The animals that we raised on farms and ate will be wild again. So life will go on without us. Enjoy some meat if you want.

The wild animals can take care of themselves (they've been doing it since before we arrived), but I think it's admirable for you to abstain from eating turkey especially since your daughter is vegetarian.

I prefer a nice spiral ham over turkey anyways. :-p
