I mean in any sense, such as a strong spiritual or religious belief that makes you want a child, apart from other reasons?

I mean by that question: APART from wanting a child because you love your partner and love children, etc.

No, but I have spiritual reasons not to. I'm not just being glib either. In a world where there are unwanted children and limited resources, is bringing another child into existence really the spiritually enlightened thing to do? Yea, I know what the bible says, I'm just asking the question. Also notice the fact that most, if not all, of our great spiritual teachers have been childless, including Jesus and the apostles. And the fact that those who make the spiritual life a vocation, like monks and nuns, renounce family altogether. Again, just playing devil's advocate.

Interesting question.

In our case God pretty much decreed that we shalt have kids (twice) in spite of our best efforts to avoid it.

I wouldn't call it a spiritual reason to have kids, but having kids definitely carries with it a very spiritual aspect. It is a rather difficult thing to explain. The moment you become a parent you gain a sudden sense of connectedness with "life the universe and everything" that just simply isn't there otherwise. That is not to say that childless people are not connected nor spiritual. It's kind of like the difference between being a molecule of water in a vast ocean and being a molecule of water in the trunk of a large oak tree.

In a spiritual sense: no. But I can tell you this: if two people really love each other and want to share that love with another person: then yes. But don't dfeel like it's an obligation. Do it because you love that person you are with.

I guess God wants us to "reproduce" and populate the Earth. I want a baby, and I will hopefully have one after I get married in the summer. Maybe not the same year, or maybe. I just want a little baby. When my sister had a baby, I knew I wanted a little bundle of joy to hold in my arms, just like she did. Babies are gifts from God, no matter the gender or anything like that. So yea, I guess some of my reasons are spiritual, and some are just because it's what I want more than anything.
I hope this is what you were looking for.

actually, spiritual reasons are the onyl reason i would and will. i would not do it for simple domestic reasons of family expansiion or to fulfill down times in my marriage. your child should be expected and wanted like a second coming of xyz prophet. although i'm not monotheistic, my child is a spiritual extension of my energy and life. only with such delicacy do i feel kids should be had.

yes.Just the feeling that you had the baby makes you have that feeling that you just gave birth to a new born and it probley would not be anything without a baby and have a husband i mean unless you cant but like i said just that feeling makes you feel like a new person without the pain from having the baby and the changin the dipers and getting up in the middle of the night its all worth it and life without babys is like life with out puppys or baby animals I think if anybody agrees with me has that same spiritual reason as me. :)

Not me, but some people have children just because the Bible says to populate the earth, not because they want the joy of having children.

The FAMILY is an institution that's in accordance with God's way, it represents a good, wholesome environment, provides for a happy, rich and fulfilling life and it's what helped to make us a great nation.

Well, to me... God says to be fruitful and multiply... is a PART of the reason I want children.
