I doubt a term and wrongminded spin on conservative values like "neocon" can last through the decades. It seems like its lifespan is short-lived.

Do you think the term neocon is going to die, and die sooner rather than later? I'm not predicting the end of the Republican party, just a repackaging that will include a group emphasizing the "smaller government, less spending" schtick more so that they can regain power to blow up government and spend more again.

A Neocon is someone who pushes for aggressive, unilateral use of US power in foeign policy, generally to make the world safe for Israel. Because of the total mess they made when allowed to implement their cockamamie scheme for remakign Iraq, no one will ever listen to them again. The term will go out of use since the faction is discredited and dying.

The term will not die. It has been used incorrectly for the entire Bush administration, which means the term will simply evolve to be used perjoratively for the Christian Right.

Interestingly, the neocons were NOT Christian right, they were fiscal conservatives.

I think that the recent election has proven that neoconservatism is unpopular. While initially Gingrich and his "contract with America" promised needed reform, the resulting experience has been very negative, and driven primarily by extremeists in the Untra social conserviate right wing fringe. That is why moderates like myself are now coming into our own.

the word "neocon" will leave when that faction of the republican party splits off from the main group and renames themselves.
