Sorry to hear your work was changed without your consent, I hope you can reconstruct them to your original intent--no one should mess with a persons creations without previous permission. That said, you can sue for whatever amount you want, whether you get anything is another issue. Hope you get a judge with an artistic understanding.

That depends. Was this work on commission? Did you receive full payment for the work? If so, the person who commissioned the work now owns it. They can paint a smiley face on it, chop it in half, or do anything else to it that they want, unless you had a contract that specifically forbids alteration of the piece.
