I think that the distinction is obvious, but some people seem confused. There are both fiscal and social agendas supported by the Republican party, but not all republicans concur with the social agenda, which moderate Republicans view as driven by untra right wing extremism and Christian fundamentalism, which many moderates fear is leading the nation down a path where one religous belief will deny the other citizens their freedoms and liberties. Fiscal conservatives support capitalist economics, fiscal responsibility, and prudent stewardship of national resouces. Does anyone not understand this?

Fiscal conservatives are in favor of limited government and prudent spending.

Since I probably spurred this question, how would a fiscal conservative justify spending vast resources on experimentation?

Social and fiscal conservatives historically have agreed that federal money should not be used to further ANY agenda.

All I can say is Barry Goldwater is probably rolling over in his grave. Though I loved Regan he rallied the Christian right so hard he actually picked up the support of fundamentalist whom in turn utilize the political machine of even the moderate Christians. The very same thing that is happening on the right is also happening on the left. The far left capitalizes on the moderates in the Democratic party slowly pushing closer and closer to their true agenda's. I will only vote for Moderate candidates n oi matter the party. It is the only way to get them to work together and get the most done. That is why little was done while the Republicans had such power. The moderates simply wouldn't go along with the extreme right. Democratic and Republican moderates have more in common then moderates and the far right and the far left. Not to mention the far left and far right at best represent only 15% of we the people yet that small minority sets our agenda's and that's just un-American. WETHE PEOPLE deserve our true voice to be heard.

Yes, I think there is two sides to the political spectrum, social and fiscal. But there are definite overlaps. This confusion is spearheaded by social spending, which they are all against 100%, which is both financial and social.

Yes, it gets confused by people here all the time.

Most republicans I know are more of the fiscal conservative type, but they also wholeheartedly support the Iraq war, which probably falls in the social side of the equation. They are fiscally unhappy about Bush though, but still tend to support him reluctantly.

The problem for many conservatives these days is sticking to both of these tenents of a typical conservative Republican platform. Many are quick to accept one or the other, but oftentimes not both. Which is fine...to each their own and we benefit from viewpoints and opinions that both challenge and clarify our own positions. I am pretty sure, though, that most conservative voters at least have some base knowledge of the two separate platforms within a platform (i.e. social vs. fiscal) and might just quite honestly find themselves agreeing with one but not the other. Tough to say!

i'm a Conservative and that i'm unsure what wave you're talking approximately. jointly as social matters nonetheless be counted very plenty, it style of feels that each and every person's concentration is in this abysmal economic equipment good now. If something, i think of the republican occasion is paying lip service to the election results of 2010 and not featuring a sparkling plan to the yank human beings approximately our dire financial issue. i think of Paul Ryan is making an articulate case and on the issue of the cost variety and lowering the deficit, he's sounding extra presidential and extreme than the president. in all fairness, maybe the president is distracted with determining on his myth baseball communities.

Neocons are all about the aggressive and unilateral use of US power in foeign policy. It is not relevant whether or not they are fiscally or socially conservative or not. Some are, some aren't.

I think we conservatives understand it much better, and understand the conservative underpinnings of this country, much better than you do, as evidenced by your over-the-top hyperventilating hyperbole concerning the Christian right and your bizarre fears of some theocratic bogeyman.
