I won't be spending Thanksgiving with family or friends this year and I haven't other years. (I am single without children) I always feel kind of sad about it and I have a tendency to become depressed this time of year, too. So, you see, you are not the only one. I try to think of it as just another day for really that is what it is. On Holiday's that I spend alone I try to stockpile some good, interesting books to browse and catch up on things that don't get done in the usual stream of things (like sorting and getting rid of papers that accumulate which is very absorbing and helps me forget about being alone for that special day).
For Christmas I have been invited to a get-together at a relative's house but to tell you the truth I don't enjoy socializing with those people. So now, what to do about that? I will probably have to go and I will try to stay only a short while. So, you see, I would mostly rather spend Christmas alone.
I feel for you and I understand.

Well you are alone but not alone. I am the same. I have no parents alive and a brother that lives so far away and I haven't seen him in 13 years anyways. I try to not be sad but sometimes when I watch tv and all the family shows are on it makes me wish I had my own to celebtate with. I hate people that have family and complain about having to spend time with family or pissed because they didn't get the right gift. They really need to look at the big picture and stop taking family for granted. I have been alone on holidays most of my life with the occasional dinner at a friends but it just isn't the same. Try not to be sad and look at the things you do have to be thankful for. God Bless you sweetie!

It has been difficult for me to listen and see the mayhem surrounding Thanksgiving. People buying those poor dead turkeys and buying booze to last them 3 lifetimes. It's difficult to hear stories of what people will be doing:gettting together with families and so on. It hurts because I do not want to be alone and I probably will be.But I have decided to take the plunge and start a new tradition myself and go feed the wild animals something tasty this year. After all I should be thankful to the good earth for supplying me with food to keep me alive.

yep, theres more ppl alone on holidays, whatever the cause . thing is u dont find out till u talk to someone and then u have someone to at be with.
it happens, i know its no fun, ur not alone
try spending the holidays away from home if u can, it'll help u forget. I dont mean an expensive vacation, but something u can enjoy a little.
if u really wanna do something offer to help out at something like an orphans home or something, but if ur like me ur probably not up for anything that extreme

Yes there is a huge difference with being alone and being lonely. I used to just enjoy preparing a meal for myself; experimenting etc. In some way you feel like you have unplugged and discovered a new meaning for the holiday. When you do find someone to share it with you will define it differently.

Not this year, but the past 3 years I was alone. Go to a thanksgiving buffet and you will see others there alone. Maybe you can find someone to be with.

Since my parents passed away, I've always lived on my own. But I've been fortunate to have friends who invited me to their place for Thanksgiving. Yeah, I know that feeling being lonely for the holidays. Just count your blessings.

rather than be depressed on such a great day, couldn't you donate your time at a local shelter helping give food to those in need.
you would be doing a great service, plus meeting some new people
just a thought
