I think intelligence is an inherent trait. There are certain ways of thinking that can only be done by people who are born with that ability. There are children who have not been taught anything who just show that they get it a little more than other kids. With that said I also think it is possible to corrupt naturally high intelligence into stupidity and it is also possible to nurture naturally low intelligence into higher intelligence. However if two children one of low intelligence and one of high intelligence were both positively nurtured the child with high intelligence would excel far beyond the capabilities of the child with low intelligence. Now with that said. It still does not mean the child with higher intelligence is more valuable than the child with lower intelligence. Often times high intelligence can be an impediment to certain types of problem solving. A solution that is obvious to the child with lower intelligence may completely elude the child with higher intelligence who may have a tendency to over-analyze. In short. You are born with intelligence but we need people of every intelligence level.

If you look at a graph of a population's intelligence, it begins from a base line, goes all the way up and then again touches the base line. Now if you analyze this graph the number of idiots and the geniuses is quite small and most of the population has intelligence level in between an idiot and a genius. Therefore genetically all of us (an overwhelming majority) has a same level of intelligence. It depends upon our education, training, motivation, and how much effort we put up which determines who is going to excel and outclass the others.

You definitely need to be born with a need to learn.
It does not matter how rich you are... It is not something you can buy for your children. They either have the ability to learn or not.
However, if you are smart, but your parents are not and don't give you the education you deserve, you will learn at a later age and probably will take some night course while working during the day to better yourself and get a better job.
You cannot control someone's will. They will only pretend being controlled and give you the finger as soon as you turn your back.
What does come in the equation is:
Motivation, determination to succeed and discipline.
Discipline can be taught the hard way...
But it is better if you are born with it.
Also helps if your parents teach you discipline at a young age. But it is not politically correct today.

According to "Rational Spirituality", it has mainly to do with the maturity of his or her Soul, the parents, and therefore the biological predispositions, are subsequently chosen to fit the requirements of the Soul. Only a strong, and therefore a more mature Soul can have a sizeable will power, and in this instance, I would say it is more vice - versa, not will-power leading to inteligence, but intelligence leading to will power.

I believe that it is a hybrid of both. I have seen intelligent people do poorly in school, because of lack of effort. I have also seen people with what seems as a low level of intelligence do well, because of their efforts. It depends on the individual.

I think believe it has LITTLE to do with biological predetermination. My sister and I have the same mom, but different dads. Our mom is not very bright, and neither is my dad, but her dad is a whiz. She and I are both very smart, but I think it is because our mom refused to let us be anything but. I have always grown up thinking that I can do anything because my mom refused to let us grow up to be dummies. I think that because she and I have had that burned into our brains, we know we can learn whatever we need to.
