The term is usually "possession is 9/10ths of the Law". It means that possession of something shows ownership and is agreed up 90% of the time by the legal system. But that was back when people were more honest and had a conscious. The general public respected the law and people's property.

It doesn't mean anything in law - it's just an old saying - "possession is 9/10ths of the law". Actually, ownership is determined by title and other factors. That fact that you have in your possession someone else's legal property does not infer ownership on you.

possesion is 9/10 of the law meaning the one who is in actual possession tends to have the law behind them since unless there was fraud or theft the possession must have been voluntary
