0.5M = 500mM
v x c=v'xc'
v x 500 = 50 x 1
0.1mL of the 0.5M solution diluted to 50mL will be 1mM

By diluting it 500-fold...

0.5 M = 500 mM
To get 50 mL of this, dilute 0.1 mL of your stock to 50 mL.
