Don't try to steam clean them for goodness' sake! Don't send them to the dry cleaner either; unless they are leather cleaning specialists. Leather may be a natural material, but it has been treated.
When I wore leather trousers for motorcycling, I cleaned them with saddle soap then rubbed them well with G-Wax to waterproof them. Both of these things are fairly easy to get; try a m/cycle clothing shop or a camping shop.

I think you would just wipe them over with a damp cloth... Like you would with your leather sofa... You wouldn't use boot polish on anything but shoes so that's a no no. Maybe you could use a leather care kit like my mum uses on her sofa... Or maybe the dry cleaners has a special technique for leather...

I have leathers for my motorbike...so there are the few exceptions of wearing leather trousers!
Yeah baby wipes are pretty good for getting off the dead bugs and stuff. Also there are special waxes that you can put on your leathers to keep them in good condition.

Dry clean them. I'd never thought of it myself, but a leather care product on them would help too I imagine.
I use baby wipes or wet tissues on leather clothes when I can't access anything else and they work fine.
