Who started this sterotype? I'm just curious because my secretary, who happens to be a blond just made the most ridiculous mistake, I had to laugh. I asked her to make a pot of coffee and when I went to pour myself a cup, all that cameout was boiling water. I went to her and asked if she had forgotten something when she made the coffee, she's says no so I showed her the coffee pot and you know what she said...she said "I'm sorry, I had another blond momment." Was this an act or is she really that ditzy? I don't usually believe in sterotypes but is there some truth behind blond being ditzy?

A ditzy blonde is a feminine stereotype. I wouldn't be suprised it if had something to do with Maryln Monroe. Its the helpless, little-girl-lost, yeilding, soft, dependent, brainless persona that looks for a father figure/protector in men, who then would need to be clever, commanding, protective. This is obviosuly outdated stuff that restricts not only women but men too (do you really want to have to look after a woman as if she were a child?)
Women who willingly subscribe to this stereotype are seen by other women (and to a degree, men) as being stupid for pandering to this ideal, and for playing down their intelligence, agression, self sufficiency, etc.
it's really something that started in the 50s. The blonde hair thing has stayed though as it is rare, not many people are naturally blonde, and it signifies youth (many people are blonde when young and then the hair darkens with age), so from an anthropolgical viewpoint it could be to do with looking for youth, as it signifies fertility.

I live with a blonde. She's my sister, and she is 12 years old. And I also have friends that are blonde. And I don't think its a sterotype. All people make mistakes. I am not blonde (I have light brown hair), and I make the stupid mistakes most blondes make sometimes.

id suggest she was not awake or preoccupied. my sister is dark brown hair and olive skin. and I'm red/blond we both have done that. in the am on occasion. we need or coffee.

Hollywood really promoted the ditsy, sex kitten blonde.
and many a woman faked it fro her man in the 50"s and 60's especially.

check out Goldie Hawn played one and got very rich and famous BUT in reality is so far from it.

hair color and IQ don't correlate.

though some men and women use dye and bleach to give an impression..now that the stereotype is there.

and we say that as a joke.

It is not so much a stereotype as it is simply an observation.
