I'm a native California, S.F. Bay area born and raised. Just wondering...you can answer openly under the 'cloak' of this avenue here...what do others outside of California think of us in terms of the way we think, dress, spiritual, creative or not, grounded, are connected with issues etc. Would appreciate insight.

My ex was from Cali. ( he lived in San Fran, then Santa Barbara.) Being a mid-westerner myself, I always had pre-conceived notions of people from Cali. I finally went ther in 2004. The people were so chill and laid back! I loved it! I would definetely live there, even though I think I am a little more conservative then some of the people there.

It's a big generalization you're asking for. But I get the sense that Southern Californians are considered kooky, quasi-spiritualistic, wanna-bees who live to experience a celebrity sighting. Professor Trelawny types.

Northern Californians seem to be rather more sincere granola types who want to save the planet so they can drive their children to volleyball camp and go on trendy snowboard vacations up in the mountains in their SUVs.

I can say this stuff because I was born and raised in the Bay Area too. I thought I was pretty cool until I moved away 20 years ago and learned what a joke we all were to everybody else.

But I loved growing up there, so who cares what other people think ?

Hello, from your next door neighbor! I live in Northern Nevada. California is a nice place to visit but I would never want to live there, I do go to Ca.a lot since I am not far from Lake Tahoe. The one thing that is bothering me about the people from the bay area is that they are all moving here to Northern Nevada and turning it into another San Francisco! The whole reason for them to move here is to get away from the hustle and bustle of bay area life, but they want all of their fancy stores and restaurants with them. The fanciest store we had here was Macy's and I was happy using mail order catalogues. I like living in a town, I don't want it to turn into a big city! I'm, just a simple cowgirl at heart.
So if you know of anyone that is thinking of moving here from the bay area please tell them to leave there fancy stores behind!

Out on a limb, disconnected with reality, obsessed with appearance-but no concern with the inside, better educated than most-but less satisfied than most, immoral, irresponsible, directionless -except for pleasure, mostly bad, some good, few great.

I am jealous! I love CA. You guys seem more laid back and open minded than us East Coasters. You seem happier too!
