want a laptop and i was thinking about the inspiron E1705. That was a nice laptop. bout 900 bucks and a 17 inch screen. Do you think I should get that? If not, what would be the best dell laptop to get then?

I think the 1505 would be good enough, because I can't classify the 1705 as "cheap".

Also, you should buy from the Business section of Dell's website because the 1505 is cheaper there, known as the 6400.

If you really want the 1705, you should still go to the Business section and choose its equivalent, the 9400.

If you're buying from the Home section of Dell.com, join Freeride.com first so you can earn points when you buy.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a Dell at all - I'd go for a Toshiba.

But $900 isn't that 'cheap' for a laptop, you should be able to get a decent machine for that.

I'd warn against getting a 17" screen as well. It's really larger than you need for a laptop, and mostly just increases the size and weight of the computer, and also significantly decreases the battery life. A 15.4" widescreen is more than large enough for most uses, and you can always hook your laptop up to an external monitor if you want a larger screen for your desk at home.
