Hm... Well, one year-- it was two years ago, actually-- the turkey was thawing in the kitchen sink. It was a big turkey-- a 20 pounder, I think-- and weighed more than 1/5th of my weight! It was a slippery little sucker too so my mom did most of the work on it... So, as I was cooking some vegetable stir fry, I felt something against my leg.
I looked down, and holy crap, there was the freaking turkey! On the floor! Walking on its drumsticks with its wings wrapped around my poor legs...
I screamed bloody murder and ran like my life depended on it... The damn thing wouldn't let go and I kicked and kicked it! Then, my dad got his double barrel shot gun and shot the stupid turkey... Yes... there was turkey meat all over the kitchen, on me, in my hair... That was my worst Thanksgiving Day disaster...
But, hey, at least I had cheesecake! :-)

When I was 18 and just married, I burnt a turkey to a CRISP. We were having Thanksgiving at our house the day after actual Thanksgiving. I knew that it took a long time to cook a turkey so I put it in the oven before we left to go shopping at 7am. When we returned around 4 it was SMOKIN! I also didn't know there was a bag inside the turkey so it was all burnt up as well.....

Yes. I learned a great lesson though. It was before I knew enough to buy a real roasting pan & it was also one of the first turkeys I ever cooked too. I put it in the oven in one of those flimsy tin pans & when I took it out, beautiful browned & basted, the pan folded up on me & the turkey landed on the floor with a splat & what a mess.
I was never so horrified up to that point, but it was a fun holiday anyway & much laughter was had by all.

My first year cooking a Turkey I remember checking the thing all over for that nasty little bag of giblets. Couldn't find it...so I assumed that maybe it was left out. Didn't want them anyway...cooked the Turkey, served my dinner and then later as I was slicing the turkey to put away in the fridge, I found the bag of giblets. It was hidden underneath that buttflap and I swear I looked there. My boyfriend and my family won't let me forget that either. Every year they now ask me did I check the turkey's as* for the giblets.....LOL

My worst was having 8 uninvited guests...one friend ... brought friends! I couldn't believe it. I'm expecting about 6 people and they show up with these people I don't even know. And I had about enough seating for the people I'd invited, it was a small house, and they kept griping because some of the kids had to sit on the floor. And my living room carpet was destroyed - drinks spilled, food ground into it...oh, I was NOT happy! And they still don't understand why I never invite them over anymore!

My sister's oven and stove stopped working on Thanksgiving day a couple of years ago. Actually, it was kind of funny.
