i remember doing a presentation once about the role that decentralization can play in economic development of poor nations, and i had set up this whole order to my powerpoint, with an aweasome quote to emphasize my point. but i accidentally gave it away too early..made me sad :(

Questioner? Do you mean like blowing your own horn even louder? No, that can't be it. Can it? In co-relation to MY understanding of the phrase "stealing thunder", and your question....If you take something, regardless from where, won't you still have the equal share of thunder, even if stolen? Or do you mean to out-do oneself in regards to expectations? But this does not as closely co-relate. If blowing ones horn even louder does not fit your gist:
