there isnt really a nut shell it would ever fit into. Ron hubbard founded it in 1952 and as i recal stated how he even exclaimed that you can make people believe anything. (in short he confessed it to be all cods wollop) its extreamly complex they believe there are green men living inside of easch one of us and have beliefs about aliens. the more grusome stuff like the torture and mutilation brainwashing etc prob wont be too publicised but have a look at this link for some pics if you like

A stated goal of Scientology is to "rehabilitate" the thetan (roughly equivalent to the soul) to regain its native state of "total freedom." Church spokesmen and practitioners attest that Hubbard's teachings (called "Technology" or "Tech" in Scientology terminology) have saved them from a plethora of problems and enabled them to better realize their highest potential in business and their personal lives. However, outside observers—including journalists, lawmakers, and national governing bodies of several countries—have reached conclusions about Scientology that are sharply at odds with the Church's self-representations. These include allegations that the church is an unscrupulous commercial enterprise that harasses its critics and brutally exploits its members.

The reclusive American writer and poet, Linda J Cirillo actually knows a lot about it, and the fact that she was spotted at the wedding, means she must have given Katie Holmes a lot of guidance and wisdom about Scientology. Because it is an OLOGY, anyone can read it up and practise it, but it is recommended not to do it at home with the lights on as you may mix the focal epirundial of the monotonically vibrations that pulsate with the sound of the ball headed drums that are used in some of the disciplines. That is why Madonna is such a good singer and bongo player. At the end of the day, no one spotted Linda J Cirillo, the reclusive American writer and poet at the wedding.

That long after his death, L. Ron Hubbard is STILL able to scam people.

A Reader's Digest article of May 1980 quoted Hubbard as saying in the 1940s "Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion."

Aside from the Scientology thing, it's hard to get legally married in Italy because of the bureaucracy.

It is believed that humans are a race from a far galaxy and that we got chased out by aliens and settled down here on earth. It also believe that when we die, our spitits float off to this far away galaxy where we are reborn to a better life but if you ask me, scientology is just another cult that brainwashed alot of people including its spokesman Tom Cruise.

I joined it many moons ago, just out of pure curiosity, from what i could see about it, supposed to be a religion and R.Hubbard is the messiah who is going to make your dreams become real. This depends on how much money you have to give him. If you start at the bottom of the ladder {me} forget it, you just work for a pittance and try to increase your potentail as you go. It seemed a lot of rubbish to me, for people with no minds of their own and who like to be part of an organisation. In a word it ,s crap.

It is 1/2 religion and 1/2 pyramid marketing scheme.

You attain advancement by taking what is the equivalent of classes. And higher levels of the classes (or materials, or whatever) cost more money.

If it's organized religion, it's about power and it's about money... It might be about God or in this case "Operating Thetans", but probably not.

Seeing as the religion was created as the result of a bar bet between sci-fi authors, I don't hold out much hope that anyone can truly understand it outside of knowing that it is a sham.
