Modems are devices that connect you to the internet via phone cord. A modem may be used with DSL as well, but not the same as a modem for dial-up.

Signals? Are you refering to WI-FI signals? Then that would apply to wireless. How strong is your signal?

Look a modem stands for modulation and demodulation.

Signals are of two types...analog signals and digital signals.
analog signals are the ones used by fones and digital signals are the ones used by computers. So if computers need to communicate thru fone wires, they need something that will convert digital signals to analog signals and then them back to digital signals when they reach the destination so that they become comprehencible to the destination machine.

this process of translating one signal into another type is called modulation and de modulation and that what modem is for.

P.c-->digital sig.-->modem-->analog sig.-->modem-->
digital sig.-->P.c

Next time please be more discriptive about your qn. Else youll end up with wonderful and unexpected responses in yahoo answers...lol
