There seems to be a disturbance in the force.... new Line has told Peter jackson that they will be looking at other directors to do the film. Who has the power in the movie industry.... The studios or the movie-goers? I say the movie-goers!!! They could have spent $4 billion dollars on "jigli" an I still wouldn't go watch it.

No, part of the success of the LOTR franchise was Peter's vision. This is a total stab in the back.

Peter Jackson is amazing and his work on King Kong as well as the Lord of the Rings series will establish himself as one of the best but I must admit that there are 2 or three other directors who may be able to pull off a decent job to where I would still go see it. Steven Speilberg for instance, even George Lucas or Ron Howard if he collaberated with the right special effects people. However I think the best case scenerio would be to have Peter Jackson finish it out as it was his toy to begin with.

Probably, I've seen lots of movies that Peter Jackson didn't direct! Just kidding. I do think it would me nice for continuity if they at least use the same sets (Hobbiton) and some of the same cast (Gollum and Gandalf especially) from the LOTR trilogy. As far as the director goes though, if it is not Jackson, it will be similar to when Chris Columbus stepped down from the Harry Potter movies, different but not insurmountable.

I will probably wait until it's out on video if Peter Jackson isn't the director. So I can watch it for free. (hollywood video free rental passes)

Peter Jackson should be the director. I mean he was so passionate about making the LOTR trilogy, why not let him finish it with directing The Hobbit?

Probably not - but I'm still hoping that the two parties are just posturing and it will all work out in the end.

Don't care who directs it. It won't be as good as the first time I read the book!
