You need to let him have his space. But, don't wait for him forever. If he doesn't come around in a week or so...move on. Good Luck!

Ok...let me be brutal here. Leave that fool! Thats just most mens way of checkin out some other chic so they don't feel guilty about cheating. If he has told you that then its best to slow your roll and exit stage left. In other words get the hell out! Or you could let him but if you go that route here are a few pointers.
Don't be sexual with him. ie no sex or kisses
If you guys hangin don't act jealous.
Don't ask about what he is doin.
Don't call him. Let him call you.
If you guys get back together. The past is the past. meaning dont ask if he screwed someone else. Thats just to say if you let him do this then you gotta deal with what it is he is really doin. And that is chillin with some other chic he thinks can do or treat him better....hell it can just be she is hott and he wants some.
But whatever you decide don't be the fool. Be informed.
Oh, and by the way don't confront him with this new found information.....bad bad bad!

This has happened to me- a nice guy will all too often sugar coat things so as not to hurt your feelings. Chances are it's his (nice) way of ending it. It is so obvious that he's had a change of heart, ignore him. It's really hard because you have feelings for him, but in time that will go away and you'll meet someone else. If it's meant to be, it will be. My best advice to you- don't chase it.

The person's basically saying that they want to see if there's any other people out there for them to go with. It's best you do the same.
If the love between the two of you was genuine(and not one-sided), things will work out.
