I didn't know I was pregnant and had x-rays taken and took hydrocodone. I also had hand surgery and was under anesthesia for an hour and took more hydrocodone after surgery. I was so terrified after I found out I was pregnant that something may have harmed my baby! But she came out perfect and healthy 4 mos. later. With knowing you were pregnant, the doctor would not have prescribed anything that would hurt your baby as long as is it taken as prescribed for only a short time. If you are still worried, consult your OB.
Good Luck, congrats on the baby and I hope you feel better!

I agree with what some of the others are saying. The doctor has only put you on these meds for a short time. The doctor knows alot better than the rest of us. It is good that you are being cautious though and not taking any more than you feel you need to. I am taking diclectin for nausea, and i feel the same way. I am taking less than the doctor subscribed and every once and a while I try to go without them to see if i still need to take them at all. I would also try other avenues like accupucture if you dont want the drugs. It cant hurt to try, and of course no meds are better for the baby if at all possible. If it doesn't work, go with your doctors advice and do what you have to do. If the doctor thinks you shouldn't be on the meds, he will advise you to take a sick leave. Keep asking him about it. If he knows you are that worried about being on the meds, he may just tell you to take a sick leave anyway. But at this point, he has only given you a weeks supply. See what happens in a week. I dont think he would keep you that druged up for too long. He is not only thinking of your wellbeing, he has to think of the baby's aswell. That is his job! Good Luck! Hope you are feeling better soon!

Theres no evidence to suggest you shouldnt take them, except for the naproxen sodium, thats the same thing as aleve, and its been known to thin the blood a little, like asprin does.
Personally, I wouldnt take them. They always 'say' these things are safe until they have overwhelming evidence (IE enough hurt pregnant women taking it within a certain number of years, who have children with birth defects) so say its unsafe.
Iam on an antibiotic right now, and even that was like pulling teeth to get me on it. I was practically walking around with broncitus from inhaling some food and it getting infected for two weeks, before i'd even consider taking it. And even then i insisted on amoxcill instead of pen.
The hydrocodone, last i knew, was suspended acetemenaphin (tylenol) which is typically safe during pregnancy. Granted its not the same thing, but if i was going to take SOMETHING i'd take that.
OKAY all that said, please consider accupuncture. I know it sounds like a load of crock, i thought ti did too. But being the anti medication person i am, with two crushed disks... i finally gave in and tried it.
Iam not kidding you, IT WORKS. And theres no chemicals in your body, its not painful, its a bit uncomfy (you cant feel the needs well because its your back, not your front), the needles are barely in your skin, NOT in muscle like when blood is drawn or a shot is given. And theyre SOOO thin.
SEriously, give it a try instead of the meds. It works MUCH MUCH better.

She should not take anything for pain except for Tylenol! Tylenol is the only thing doctors will let you take for pain, and the package only says that to cover their own butts, but its perfectly fine. No asprin or anything else. As for the other medications, most likely she can NOT take them, but you need to ask a doctor asap. Better yet, Look up a 24 hour Walgreens or CVS pharmacy and ask them RIGHT NOW before she takes anything else! :) Pharmacists sometimes know more about the drugs than doctors do.

Honey, if the doctor and the pharmacy said they were safe, why are you asking a bunch of NON professionals on a website?? If you read the leaflet that comes with the medications, it will advise on there whether they are not to be used by pregnant women or not. Stop worrying and get rid of your back pain!!

I'm sure everyone involved has taken the pregnancy into consideration - the meds are fine. Why hold back on them when you have to work? Take them!

If the doctor who gave the meds to you knew you were pregnant then they're safe. With lawsuits today being what they are I've found they'll tell you not to take things unless they're 99.9999999999% sure they won't hurt anything.
