Sure, she can say she doesn't want to go and she doesn't have to. She can also say she doesn't want to eat her vegetables or do her homework. Unless someone makes her do these things she won't. Visiting her Dad is a good thing, whether she likes it or not, and we often have to force our kids to do "what's good for them."

Yes. She is of the legal age to make that decision in most states. But if there are custody issues where the court is mandating visitation, then no, she can't not see him. Your husband and his ex-wife and the daughter would all have to go to court and go through a custody hearing, only this time, the court will hear the daughter's side, and make a ruling according to that. Most of the time, the courts will rule in favor of what the child wants, within reason.

many ex wives get joy at seeing their former husbands hurt and suffer and the most powerful weapon they have are the children.their real aim is at the woman they are with jealous of having to share their child with another woman. Be reassured however that the love of a child is unconditional, sure they may leave for a while especially 14 year old girl, where she is growing up and wants to spend more time with friends on the weekend " hangout "
why not offer another option that is amicable to both the father and the daughter where they both agree. the ex wife is probably making it sound worse than what it really is

She doesn't have a choice until she's 18.
It sounds like they need to work something out. But, if your husband has legal custody rights then he gets to see his daughter.
There are alot of things that I didn't want to do when I was 14. Sometimes, life's tough.

If he has visitation rights, the ex has no say so about the daughter visiting her father. He needs to make sure they both know it.

No, the child does not have a choice if there are legally ordered visitation rights. He can go to court and get them enforced if he wants to.

If he has a court written visitation schedule then the answer is no, she cannot arbitrarily decide that she does not want to visit her father. Her father has rights too. If she wants to stop being forced to see him then she must go to court to have the visitation rights terminated.

Not knowing what state you live in, it would be what ever the laws would be. Most states do give the child a choice unfortunatley.
However, what needs to be determined is , who made the choice?
does she say this or is it her mothers choice speaking for her.?
its a sad situation. the child may regret this later in life..He needs to always assure her that he will be there for her anyway.

I think at 14 she can decide who she wants to see. Maye theres a good reason. Maybe, thi, her mom is feeding the kid lies(btut the truth will one day surface). maybe dad ought to call the girl and see about making a plan for a weekend getaway. Maybe thatll bring em closer.
