I missed the "Farepak Christmas fiasco." But why should the MPs be assumed to be sympathetic to that extent? If they donate a day's pay to this and a day's pay to that, before long they are effectively depriving their own families who, you may be sure, are already over-budgeted for that salary.

Should MPs be expected to contribute to every cause that asks? Wouldn't it be better if they made legislation which would in some way protect people who paid into farepak.
As for The Sun, I noticed on the front page (not the main story but still on the front page), the Sun proudly proclaiming how much they were giving to Farepak, is that not just a PR stunt?

I'm divided on this one. There are great many worthy causes for which MPs could be asked to donate a day's pay. Although charity is a worthy quality in an elected official, it is something that has to be a personal choice.
So, yes, I think it's a reflection of how much they care, but I'd hate to see an MP not be elected because they had chosen to give their money to another cause rather than this, very public one.

I dont think the mps have to contribute after all there just normal like you and me and also have families to support over christmas would you donate a days wages would this put you into debt or make you short for the month i think that the people who took the money and kept taking the money even though they knew they would be going bankrupt should have to pay it back.

A days pay at £165 ...well I thought we were getting poor value for money but now I am really angry!the very fact that they earn so much just shows that they could have no real concept of what it is like to have a low income ..these people(victims of greed) were saving so they could afford Christmas as a necessity not for luxury's .Why would they care when they don't understand how life is in the real world?

Of course it does.
And yet when there was a shortfall in the MPs pension fund, you, me and all the other taxpayers had to dig deep to make sure the poor darlings didn't go without.

Maybe they need the money too. Some people can not afford to give up a days pay, especially at this time of year.

I don't know if it's because only a*seholes go into politics, or if politics turns normal people into a*seholes, but they mostly seem to be a*seholes anyway.
Power hungry, selfish, arrogant a*seholes at that.
