what's x if -3x + 4 = 0

-3x must equal -4 in order for that sum to be zero.

that says -3 times x equals -4.

you can do this with any equasion. imagine one you know the answer to and treat the unknown in the same manner you did the known. ....
2 times 6 equal 12
therefore knowing 12 divided by 6 will give you 2
or knowing that 12 divided by 2 will give you 6

you can safely assume that in your question

-3 times (x) equals -4 ... and that
-4 divided by (x) will equal -3 .. and that
-4 divided by -3 will equal (x) which apparently is the answer you need because if you look at that as a fraction and know that the two negatives top and bottom cancel each other to make it a positive fraction

the answer is (x) = 4/3

+ 4 = 0 + 3x
+ 4 = +3x
4/3 = x
x = 1 1/3

- 4 -4
-3x = 0 - 4
-3x = -4

Then divide both sides by -3....

x=1.333333etc... 1 1/3

x = -4/-3
= 1 1/3

the answer is simple...

-3x-4=0
-3x= - 4
x= - 4/3

i.e substitutuing in the above eqn

-3x-4/3+4=0
=3 cancels off leaving - 4+4=0
