Nice to know people here understand the stuff they answer, not.

Anyway, to attempt a proper answer... Not in school tomorrow so can't look it up for you , but a useful book is "Schools for Special Needs" ISBN: 074944696X which is a directory of UK special schools. Sorry I haven't got the book to hand.

For the drongo answerers - special schools cater for kids who can't cope with mainstream education for many different and often complex reasons. Some of you are SO afraid of things you don't understand, aren't you?

couldn't tell you an exact figure. but schools in england are very keen to include all children within a comprehensive school rather than special.
Also some tend to be called centres now as well, i.e. children's centrs.
