The options mentioned above are good, unfortunately I believe UK citizens (except northern Ireland) are not eligible to enter the green card lottery. You do have a couple of options though:

1. Study in the USA - after you finish your university studies you will be granted a 1 year optional practical training work permit. Many international students have used this to get their first U.S. job. After the first year, most employers sponsor them for H-1 visas and permanent residences.

2. Apply directly to U.S. companies - If you have in-demand skills and experience, you may be hired directly by a U.S. company and granted a work visa.

3. Apply to international organizations such as the United Nations, World Bank, IMF, etc. International professionals who are hired by these organizations are granted G-4 visas that allow them to work and live in the U.S. without paying U.S. taxes.

4. Work for a UK company with branches in the USA. You may be able to transfer within your company to a U.S. branch.

5. Apply for a work-abroad program. Here's a good list: http://www.macquil.com/abroad.php

Good luck!

As a Canadian i can tell you. It`s money or love.Canadian`s move to the US because they were offered more money, a lot more.People in the entertainment industry head to the US because that`s were the money is.American movies and television are dumped on the Canadian market and it`s almost impossible for Canadian television and movies to get any air time in the US. You would have to pay me least 10K a year more before i would ever consider moving to the US.Health care has never been a issue in my life.I have always had good care for me and my family.I live in a nice quiet neighbourhood with a very low crime rate and good schools.I have all the modern luxuries.I`m not rich ,just average. So why would i move?

You and me both buddy. I am an Australian and I have the same dreams. Here are some of the options available:

Enter the greencard lottery

Go study there

Go on a camp counciler or ski resort work holiday (checkout www.ccusa.com)

I have applied for the greencard lottery and I am going over there next year to study.

All the best....

I would see if you can get a company to sponsor you for a work visa.
