Lyrics i can make out are:

Over mountains over trees.
Over oceans over seas.
Across the desert, I'll be there.

In a whisper on the wind
on the smile of a new friend
just think of me & ill be there

dont be afraid of my love
ill be watching you from above
and id give all the world tonight to be with you
cuz im on your side &i still care
i may have died but ive gone nowhere

The song was sang by Trevor Steel and his band, The Escape Club. 'I'll Be There' was a hit from the English band's 2nd album, 'Dollars & Sex' and was written about the death of the singer's best friend's wife. However, when the song came out it was always dedicated to the soilders fighting in Desert Storm. This made it a huge hit.

Jackie Trent in 1969 ( number 36 in the chart`s )
The Jackson`s 1970 (number 4 in the chart`s )
Maria Carey 1992 ( number 2 in the chart`s )
innocence (also in 1992 ) number 26 in the chart`s
And ( finally ) 99th floor elevator`s featuring Tony de vit got to number 36 in the chart`s in 1996 ! ( maybe it`s this last one you are thinking about !!!!

Well, the Jackson five did sing "I'll be there", so did Mariah Carey. So I don't know if we are talking about the same song.

Here you go:
I'll Be There by The Escape Club(lead singer Trevor Steel)

OVER MOUNTAINS
OVER TREES
OVER OCEANS
OVER SEAS
ACROSS THE DESERT
I'LL BE THERE

IN A WHISPER ON THE WIND
ON THE SMILE OF A NEW FRIEND
JUST THINK OF ME
AND I'LL BE THERE

DON'T BE AFRAID, OH MY LOVE
I'LL BE WATCHING YOU FROM ABOVE
AND I'D GIVE ALL THE WORLD TONIGHT
TO BE WITH YOU
BECAUSE I'M ON YOUR SIDE
AND I STILL CARE
I MAY HAVE DIED
BUT I'VE GONE NOWHERE
JUST THINK OF ME
AND I'LL BE THERE

ON THE EDGE OF A WAKING DREAM
OVER RIVERS, OVER STREAMS
THROUGH WIND AND RAIN
I'LL BE THERE

ACROSS THE WIDE AND OPEN SKY
THOUSANDS OF MILES I'D FLY
TO BE WITH YOU
I'LL BE THERE

DON'T BE AFRAID, OH MY LOVE
I'LL BE WATCHING YOU FROM ABOVE
AND I'D GIVE ALL THE WORLD TONIGHT
TO BE WITH YOU
BECAUSE I'M ON YOUR SIDE
AND I STILL CARE
I MAY HAVE DIED
BUT I'VE GONE NOWHERE
JUST THINK OF ME
AND I'LL BE THERE
JUST THINK OF ME
AND I'LL BE THERE

IN THE BREATH OF A WIND THAT SIGHS
OH, THERE'S NO NEED TO CRY
JUST THINK OF ME
AND I'LL BE THERE

DON'T BE AFRAID, OH MY LOVE
I'LL BE WATCHING YOU FROM ABOVE
AND I'D GIVE ALL THE WORLD TONIGHT
TO BE WITH YOU
BECAUSE I'M ON YOUR SIDE
AND I STILL CARE
I MAY HAVE DIED
BUT I'VE GONE NOWHERE
JUST THINK OF ME
AND I'LL BE THERE
JUST THINK OF ME
AND I'LL BE THERE

WHEN YOU THINK OF ME
I'LL BE THERE

Could it possibly be 'You've got a friend' by Carole King/James Taylor circa 1970.

'Winter, spring, summer or fall/All you have to do is call/And I'll be there...'
