Some of the simplest, most basic learning is called conditioning(T or F)

A baby who calls everything "mama" is engaging in response generalization. (T or F)

And one more, that's not T or F (okay so I lied...)

A mother is trying to teach her little boy to eat his cereal with a spoon. Every time he corectly does so, his mother gives him a small piece of his favorite cookie. This is an example of ________

Both T/F are true.

The answer to the m/c is C - Reinforcement is a critical element in operant conditioning or behaviorism. This is where you reward successive approximations of the behavior you are trying to elicit to increase the likelihood that the behavior will increase in frequency.

It is NOT classical conditioning which is the pairing of a natural stimulus with an unnatural stimulus (like the bell with introducing food in Pavlov's experiments) to elicit a natural response (salivation) in response to the new, unnatural stimulus.

Question #1:

Some of the simplest, most basic learning is called conditioning(T or F)

Answer:

True

Question #2:

A baby who calls everything "mama" is engaging in response generalization. (T or F)

Answer:

False

Reason:

Response generalization is the phenomena where if a rule is taught in one context, it will be generalized to other contexts. For example, if you teach a child to put an "s" at the end of the word tree to pluralize it, the child will exhibit reponse generalization when he/she puts an "s" at the end of other nouns to pluralize these other nouns.

Question #3:

And one more, that's not T or F (okay so I lied...)

A mother is trying to teach her little boy to eat his cereal with a spoon. Every time he corectly does so, his mother gives him a small piece of his favorite cookie. This is an example of ________
a.Classical conditioning
b.Insight learning
c.Reinforcement
d.Vicarious Learning

Answer:

c. Reinforcement. More specifically, this is an example of positive reinforcement.

Reason:

A positve reinforcer is a stimulus which increases the likelyhood of a behavior to occur in the future.
