Self sufficiency is my dream.
Robinson Crusoe managed it.
It would need to be somewhere remote.
In the mountains somewhere, living off the land.

We have seen this as mentioned in movies. Robinson Crusoe and Gilligan's Island. So, for people to write of this and make TV/Movies it a thought in many peoples minds.
I feel this can be done, but, the living conditions may be those of the Cavemen, no offense to the Geico Caveman. Simple things we take for granted would become a survival necessity. If, a person had enough land they could grow most of these needed food items and natural medicines. But, this where world Government comes into the factor. How you pay your property taxes? With money up front, a person can stock pile enough supplies to survive and could hide in the mountains and possibly do this. But, it just seem a person going to need a little cash on hand over time. I would like to live on a boat. The ocean is a vast food supply and with planning I feel I could live fairly well and still interact with people, we are social creatures to a point. But, I think I would still need to do a few "Odd Jobs" to pick up the money to buy a few things as they arise or use a type of Barter System. Hey, I trade you a Pound of Fresh Shrimp for 5 pounds of dried beans. ;-) Fuel is another factor I would have, but, very minute if I have a Sail Boat. Well, I could write much, but, I hope this give enough for thought.

I've wondered about that too. The bushmen in Africa don't have money in the formal sense of abstract currency. They still trade things for other things however, so it depends on what you mean by money.

The homeless in any country survive without money, or at least much money. Survive is the key word, I don't think it is much of a life.

You could be like the uni-bomber and live in a cabin somewhere in Montana growing your own food etc. It is hard to imagine you could get away with even that without some money however.

I think we can survive and even thrive with little money, but with no money it is like we become completely disconnected with the rest of society.

Well, my parents are from Jamaica. In the country, you don't need a lot of money to survive. You do a bit of farm work and some selling and you're okay. It's a simple life but you can be content and have very little money at the same time. This is not for all of Jamaica! Just some places!

No you cannot, not in The United States of America anyways. You can survive without earning any because the government will give you welfare. You absolutely need money to survive here. In undeveloped Places, like a lot of countries in Africa, you don't need money. You can bassically hunt whatever you want for food and you drink from ponds and stuff. You just need to worry about being randomly killed.

Is "money" considered cash or earthly posessions? Everything has a value in our society and way of life. You have to have food to eat, and food costs money. If no money, then you trade food for something else. Even knowledge is worth something. If you are a complete "dope" your chances of suvival in a deserted island are minimal.
