i did something out of fun, but my good friend reacted strongly towards it, to the extent that he wanted to hit me.

i refuse to apologise because it was done out of fun, and not with the intent to humiliate or anger him on purpose.

so now, he wants to confront me physically the next time we meet because he knows i will react when provoked and he wants a fight.

how do i approach this situation?

edit: if i apologise, do i question him on why he would even think of hitting a friend?

It sounds to me that you really hurt this persons feelings even if you meant to or not! Don't let your pride ruin your friendship! Physically violence is not the answer if you dont want to see this person face to face you can just mail a letter of apology.

I think your friend needs some anger managment classess. Nothing is worth physical fighting over. If he has a real issue with whatever he did he should be man enough to sit down and discuss with you how it made him feel. Then you should also apologize for doing or saying whatever it was that you did or said. Even though you met no harm you should still be a good friend and apologize. If that does not work then you two were not as good a friends as you thought.

Good Luck Michelle

You might think it was funny, but if it's something that he feels strongly about then I think you should call him and explain the situation to him. Tell him that it was done purely to be funny and you didn't know he would feel this way. Tell him that you are sorry for hurting him but you didn't hurt him on purpose. You have to know when to apologize even when you weren't purposefully hurting someone. I think you should apologize.

Oh, just to be careful do it over the phone.

Pfft, keep in mind that what is fun to one person maybe totally offensive to the other. What kind of friend are you if you dont recognize that fact ?

Explain the fact to him, tell him it was meant to be for fun. Let him have his say in it on why he was so offended. Unless he's a bad friend he prolly has a good reason for wanting to do what he wants to do.

Reflect on your actions first before you even analyze anyone else.

he is a friend and you are not sorry you upset him? whether done in fun or not whatever you did upset, hurt, humiliated him. you should be sorry for that. no he should not hit you but you said this affected him strongly, and you won't apologize. you are just adding to his anger. why? are you enjoying making it worse?

Sounds like you are being stubborn. If this is truly your friend then you should apologize for upsetting him but also let him know that was NOT your intention. Good Luck.

if you truly considered this person your friend you would apologize for the sake of it hurting them in this way. Obviously your senses of humor are different and you have to wonder if you really have a true friendship, especially if they want to harm you in any way.

well then that isn't your friend, because you offended them with disregard because you felt that your own warped sense of humor justified the action, and it obviously didn't. that may be part of the reason he wants to confront you.

just apologize and stop being a jerk about it.

Well you definitely shouldn't fight....that doesn't solve anything ....however you should apologize.....it sounds like what ever you did, he feels very strongly about it...so if you value your friendship..........suck it up....and and say your sorry!!!!!
