if you are talking about a company's resources such as info etc, you need to have a fast server for ftp, another server for hosting the intranet's pages, a router-***-switch hub for the number of workstations, etc.

the best way is to ask around your clients or friends who knows about setting up an intranet and/or extranet.

if you want to learn, it will take at least 6 months lesser or more for a full-fledged intranet and/or extranet.
