The American Red Cross says you can donate blood if you are at least 6 weeks post-partum.

Did you have a lot of blood loss? Were you given blood? That would make you need to wait longer.....like 12 weeks?

Breastfeeding moms can give blood.

I told the UK blood donation service I was 6 months pregnant and they said they would take me off the list for 6months or a year after the baby was born. I guessed it was because your body has been through enough, your immune system maybe down also there is a risk with blood loss/exposure.

Your body is still recovering from the labor and its probably just a safe-guard for you.

It's best not to give blood if you are breastfeeding.
