You've probably uploaded Internet Explorer 7 and have a new toolbar. Look for the yellow stars on the left of the toolbar. Click the single star. Your favourites are there. The two stars are for adding to favourites.

After an update, you CAN'T find your favorites? They are usually there under the Favorites Icon on the browser. If they are gone, considering rebooting completely to see if they come back.

I tried looking for ANY additional details re your question, but could not - only what was "visible"! I haven't been in Yahoo ANSWERS recently. In fact, I ASKED A QUESTION LAST WEEKEND, and I'm a Christian, ALWAYS ending my question/request with "God Bless and Thank You For ANY Help You Can Give - I am Desperate for a response - thank you!" This last weekend, completely and totally STUCK, something I HAD NEVER SEEN BEFORE and too MICROSOFT COULD NOT HELP with either!!! Someone in Yahoo Answers, for their "lousy 2 points" actually "answered" by stating to me "God cannot answer your prayers today"! That was also the ONLY response and answer I received!!! My point is this: people go to this site, perhaps some not even knowing of Microsoft's help line ... allowing 2 free incidents (I have explained this to you further down within my response to you) ... seeking help for sometimes desperate answers (such as myself last weekend - after all - not even Microsoft had a response for me - and THAT WAS A DEFINITE FIRST)! Why do some have to be so "cruel" or "jerks" and give responses such as above, instead of just leaving it alone ... as in the old (smile) late 60s song ... "Silence is Golden" ... and if they can't answer - just leave it alone - period?!

Therefore, I am RIGHT NOW - APOLOGIZING TO YOU ... as IF I misunderstood you ... or there IS more to your question in a lengthy description, and I never saw it ... and IF you know MORE on the computer than what I understand ... as shared ... never ever hearing that phrase before ... "new to the dot com world" ... thinking you are a very much a beginner - perhaps having your first computer ... I have truly gone to the depths of explanation - and repetitiveness - to make SURE you understand - or HOPE you understand; as I am a very compassionate person ... but too, I am also a person that is and lives in very much excruciating pain from 3 spinal fusions, 1 of which failed, which causes most of the pain, work without a medical release, and what's worse, with the holidays approaching, and as a legal secretary, BIG corporations and law firms do NOT hire between Halloween and mid January ... and secretaries do not make moves until after receiving their Christmas bonuses they waited all year for ... so I am very stuck, financially, emotionally, and in pain .... had an email on the site re my question, and since last weekend, I have fixed my own problem, without Microsoft or anyone else ... even though I only got about 15 hours of sleep in 3 days .. (EEK) ... and my pain is SO BAD right now ... I NEED TO APOLOGIZE IF I AM READING YOUR REMARK WRONG, and you know much about computers, and I'm explaining every step to you as simply as I can ... as most of what I know, I perform on "auto-pilot" and don't "think" about WHAT I'm doing - I just do it! Thus, I felt it only right to apologize, if you think "I" think you are a little on the "slow side" or something ... when ALL I am trying to do is to make SURE you understand every step I explain ... as I am (as shared) taking "you" as being "new to the computer world - period"! Again, if this is NOT the case, I apologize. If it is the case, and you are "new to the computer world, then please - this is my email address: jandtromero@fea.net ... and if I can explain anything within this answer you may not understand (altho I explain and repeat a few times, so I truly doubt that any bridge is left uncrossed at least 2 times ... to make SURE you DO understand .. of if anything else comes up that you might like some help on, and I MIGHT be able to help, please feel free ... Altho too, if I'm in too much pain, I may take a day or two to answer ... (just a warning) - smile!

Please accept my apologies if my "Dick and Jane" language is beneath your intelligence and you ARE a "computer geek”... and APOLOGIES too for the "length of the email" ... but again - I crossed each "T" and dotted each "I" several times ... God Bless! I DO SO HOPE THIS HELPS AND YOU FIND "MY FAVORITES”...

As I THINK you got a "warning" (as Microsoft does NOT give "Internet warnings") ... and this sounds like a "pop up spam" window ... and sadly "you fell for it" ... as Microsoft only "updates" with computer information regarding updating three - four ways that I'm aware of - also listed within this email response.

With ALL that said - and apologies made... here I go and again, PLEASE - I AM NOT TRYING (SMILE) TO TREAT YOU as one of "little intelligence ... again - APOLOGIES if you take my overly detailed response that way:

You indicate you're new to the "dot com world" (assuming you mean computers ??) ... so I will try to respond as simply as I can and as shared above, IF I should too elementary, forgive me; as I'm NOT SURE HOW MUCH YOU KNOW or HOW NEW YOU ARE?!

BUT - it sounds like you allowed a 'spam' pop-up to let you THINK it was legit MICRO site; cuz in ALL MY YEARS with Microsoft, I've NEVER KNOWN Micro to share ANYTHING that "blatant" (i.e., "you need to update windows) ... nor have I ever known them to NOT put ANY information into an email with their email address plainly visible: usually: http://www.microsoft.com which can be seen in the Internet Explorer Address box ... always.

Micro's procedures - consistently ... regarding that of requiring updates (UD) are NEVER popups telling you to update (UD) Windows or any other program! Micro works like this re UDs (variation): either a GOLD SHIELD on Notification Bar (near clock) and by placing your cursor on the SHIELD (and as I have NO UDs to install I can't quote), but similar to: "Updates ready to install; you can work while UDs installing"; OR another method for UDs: When RESTARTING, TURN OFF OR STAND BY, there is located a MULTI-COLORED SHEILD which is automatically on the words TURN OFF, indicating UDs prepared to install; AND IF (never seen it yet in 6 yrs), but IF an Internet Explorer (IE) "warning", and I REPEAT: ALWAYS an http://www.microsoft.com address in IE! NEVER an email saying you need to UD Windows & NEVER an IE 'window' with NO ADDR! NEVER! This happened to me when I was new, regarding updating my Registry, but I could see this was a POPUP and called Micro before acting on it! ALWAYS if in doubt, ALWAYS contact Micro first before doing anything! (HINDSITE 20-20!)

The Micro "tech #" is 800-936-5700 & allows 2 FREE incidents (meaning help given with problems) w/ea Micro upgrade on the computer; meaning 2 free incidents on ANY and EA Office Program: 2002, 2003, and the new 2005. EA program has w/ it 2 free incidents. The incident when fixed or as they say "resolved" is "closed", BUT - the SAME INCIDENT NUMBER CAN BE USED if the SAME INCIDENT gives problems over and over! This happened to me once with "Disk Cleanup" wherein it NEVER WORKED ... or perhaps I should say 2 times out of 100 times it worked. The incident would be closed, and 3 months later, same problem, the incident was re-opened. THAT is NOT a "new incident". IF the same or similar problem arises in ANY program, i.e. Outlook, Windows, Operating System, etc., the SAME SRX number and the incident itself is simply reopened and reused and no "new incident is charged" to that PID number. If you do not know HOW to find the PID number on the toolbar, Microsoft can always tell you where to go and it takes but a few seconds!

In THIS problem, that you have pending right now - I would SUSPECT it would be under (??) the actual Windows Operating System itself. Again, Microsoft techs specialize in their own areas - and not one tech can answer problems from another "program field" ... i.e., Outlook can't answer questions regarding Excel, etc.

You first talk to Customer service, asking several questions, including what is the problem that YOU THINK it might be ... the give you an "SRX Number" - which do not LOOSE ... altho they do write you an email afterwards, the emails are always VAGUE, and NEVER (ALMOST NEVER) indicate what the EXACT problem was/is and thus, I always print and then make my own notes (in case the same number can be used - smile); and IF the same/similar problem happens, not only YOU have the SRX number, but they too have their computers, when once the SRX number is given to them, they open it - reopen it - and connect you to the department in charge. But also THAT SRX number ALWAYS goes to THAT DEPARTMENT for THAT OR SIMILAR PROBLEM. So a warning: don't think you can take an "Outlook SRX problem" and tell them "SRX Number XXXX" and I need to speak to someone in Windows - as they will look it up and tell YOU this SRX number has nothing to do with Windows (smile)! After the 2 free incidents, w/ DIF problems/ DIF SRX #s, each incident costs $39.95 ea. BUT NOW, B4 calling Micro, this is what I WOULD DO IS TO IMMEDIATELY BLOCK ALL POPUPS!

NOW SOME PROBLEMS CAN ALSO BE ANSWERED BY GOING TO THE CERTAIN PROGRAM (EXAMPLE: WORD DOCUMENTS), GO TO HELP AND GO TO THE QUESTION MARK UNDER HELP ... WHICH OPENS THE WEBSITE AND YOU CAN ASK THE QEUSTION AS SIMPLY AS POSSIBLE, AND THE WEBSITE OF MICROSOFT WILL GIVE SEVERAL OPTIONS RE THE TOPIC THE COMPUTER THINKS MAY HAVE AN ANSWER OR RESPONSE TO HELP!

Now, directions of how to get to finding MY FAVORITES - HERE WE GO - AGAIN - APOLOGIES FOR REPEATING, SIMPLETON-TALK, ETC. as described and explained above - simply trying to be as thorough with you as possible and assuming you are new to the computer world (not having a CLUE what "dot com world is") (AGAIN - SORRY!)

Go to START; then SEARCH; click SEARCH & to left of screen is a BLUE BOX. Choose ALL FILES AND FOLDERS and as soon as cursor is under those words, an underscore also appears, and you CLICK on that option! A new MENU then appears, showing 3 boxes. ONLY USE THE FIRST BOX which states: 'ANY OR ALL OF FILE NAME'. Insert FAV or fav or FaV or FAv. My point herein is the BOX IS NOT CASE SENSITIVE! It's only important you insert the order of the letters correctly so the search is what you are searching for. In YOUR CASE, you're looking for "MY FAVORITES" but to give the computer all capability of a complete search, allow flexibility and leeway ... I recommend you only type FAV! I guarantee you, if your "My Favorites" is STILL on the hard drive, IT WILL COME UP! But I once again STRESS, make sure the letters are in the correct order; NOT case sensitive to upper and lower case letters - just in the correct order - FAV! ALSO REPEATING: to use FAV - not FAVORITE or FAVORITES gives computer more leeway to search and find ANYTHING having those 3 letters and a better shot at finding your Favorites! It's always better to have too much than not enough regarding the files found! If for some reason this "POPUP" which I KNOW wasn't Microsoft, but for some ODD REASON TOOK OUT AND REMOVED COMPLETELY "MY FAVORITES" WHICH I'VE NEVER HEARD OF BEFORE ... (God forbid) OR perhaps even "changed the title" - by inserting only 3 letters of FAV ... the chances of you finding it are FAR BETTER THAN SPELLING IT OUT TOTALLY JUST IN CASE!!!

I have an external drive. Each and every night, anything I've created NEW, I add to the external drive, and thus, if the computer would crash in the middle of the night or something this bizarre happens due to spyware or a popup or something that seemingly has happened to you - I have ALL documents on my external drive, including my fonts, Outlook stationary, Outlook ".pst" backup, etc. I could bring ANYTHING back that any "spam" "spyware" or any other danger could "take from me! No matter whether it is on my "C Hard Drive" or not - I KNOW IT IS ON MY EXTERNAL DRIVE!!! It has been a lifesaver for me several times and I recommend the investment (not cheap) into one! And too, I'm NOT GOOD at burning CDs, to copy everything on my computer - so again - the external drive has been a blessing in more ways than one!

OK: BACK TO SEARCH AND "FAV" ...

We have NOW INSERTED "FAV" in the box named ALL OR PART OF FILE NAME, and it's also the first box on the blue menu page that just made itself visible seen on the 'blue search area' of the screen, as soon as you chose ALL FILES AND FOLDERS. Now, as soon as you insert FAV in the first box entitled ALL OR PART OF FILE NAME, you will see the 3rd box has a drop down arrow. You want to search in what is called "LOCAL C DRIVE". That is what you wish to have SHOWING inside that drop down box and the item you will chose, if it hasn't already been chosen (as it usually is the "default" search area - USUALLY). For MYSELF AND MY COMPUTER, because I have an external drive, MY usual "seach" shows as "LOCAL DRIVES: C, F" (the external drive is on what the computer defines as "Drive F" - automatically once the computer has 'found the hardware after it's inserted, it is automatically given a drive letter and then because the computer automatically sees it is another disk drive, it automatically includes it as part of the standard 'search - so instead of "LOCAL C DRIVE" - I have a prompt that states "LOCAL DRIVES: C, F"). Did I confuse you?! Sorry, wanted to give example, in case you have external drive, or ever think of getting one!

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, AND ALSO VERY IMPORTANT TO GIVE COMPUTER THE FLEXIBILITY OF LOOKING THROUGH EVERYTHING ON THE COMPUTER - AND AGAIN - I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH: You'll see an option with a "drop down double-line arrow" ... entitled MORE ADVANCED OPTIONS. On the 'double line down arrow' again entitled MORE ADVANCED OPTIONS, click it: and you will see FIVE BOXES, and again, as mine have already been 'prompted' and once prompted, unless 'I' change it, it will NOT change, I can only guess ... I THINK the norm is 2-3 boxes that are automatically checked with green checkmarks. WHAT YOU WANT IS AGAIN TO GIVE COMPUTER THE ENTIRE FLEXIBILITY TO SEARCH EVERYTHING: THUS, AND I HAVE THIS FROM MICROSOFT ALSO: CHECK EACH AND EVERY BOX .... AGAIN - A TOTAL OF 5 .. AND THUS, YOU WILL SEE 5 GREEN CHECK MARKS. As what you do is to go to an empty box, and LEFT CLICK IT - which inserts a green checkmark into the box. Again - when finished doing this procedure, you SHOULD see 5 green check marks .... all performed by left clicking the empty boxes ... and again - I THINK that if never used prior, there are 2 or 3 checked, and the others ARE NOT CHECKED until YOU CHECK THEM -and by checking them, again, you are giving the computer all flexibility to SEARCH EVERYTHING ON THE COMPUTER DRIVE FOR YOUR FAVORITES.

Finally - on the right side of the screen which is white, you will see 'columns' - which NOW are empty. Above these are: NAME, IN FOLDER, SIZE, TYPE, DATE MODIFIED. Obviously, what's important for YOU is "MY FAVORITES" which will be (after the search is complete) on the left hand side of this column area. PLEASE NOTE: BY TAKING THE CURSOR AND INSERTING IT 'ON THE LINE' WHICH DIVIDES EACH COLUMN SIZE, YOU WILL SEE A "+" MARK ON THE CROSSING LINE CREATING THE COLUMN LENGTH OR SIZE. WHAT WILL BE IMPORTANT FOR YOU RIGHT NOW IS NOT ONLY THE TITLE 'MY FAVORITES' BUT ... WHERE IT IS LOCATED - AND WHERE IT IS LOCATED IS IN THE COLUMN CALLED "IN FOLDER". WHAT YOU MAY WANT TO DO BEFORE BEGINNING THE SEARCH IS TO EXTEND (SEE HOW TO ABOVE) THE LENGTH OF THE 'IN FOLDER' AND GIVING IT THE MOST ROOM ... AND FINALLY, HIT THE BOX SAYING 'SEARCH' ... AND LET IT DO ITS THING:

FINALLY - AND AGAIN, NOT KNOWING IF YOU KNOW HOW TO READ 'WHERE FILES ARE" I WILL GIVE AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT IT WILL LOOK LIKE, HOW TO READ IT AND HWERE TO GO AND THEN I WILL BID YOU ADIEU, WISH YOU LUCK, TELL YOU TO EMAIL ME AT jandtromero@fea.net if you need any other help or explanation, and then suggest you "grab a cup of coffee" (if you don't have one - smile) ...and say to you God Bless and Good Luck ... but KEEP AWAY FROM POPUP WINDOWS ... THEY ARE NEVER FROM MICROSOFT!!! (SMILE!) AND - I DO SO HOPE YOU FIND YOUR FILE!)

THE 'IN FOLDER" ON THE SEARCH SCREEN WILL LOOK SOMETHING LIKE THIS:

NAME: (A Star in Front - Just Like the Micro Program) with the words "My Favorites" ... and then in the 'section' entitled "IN FOLDER" .... the list will look something like this, remembering there IS a default folder, and any other folders you have created as USERS on your Microsoft (assuming you have Word 2002, 2003 or the new 2005 (which I don't have yet) ....

C:\Documents and Settings\Admin
C:\Documents and Settings\Default User
C:\Documents and Settings\Jacquie
C:\Documents and Settings\Sam

and other varieties with the word "Favorite" (I just ran "FAV") ... in Search on MY computer ... bringing up not only the "MY FAVORITES FILES" - as are in each user sector... but also the word "FAVORITES" is appearing with music icons, picture icons, and ANYTHING I have the word Favorite in .. or with!

Again, MY HUMBLEST APOLOGIES if I'm sharing to someone who knows far more of the computer than what I'm giving credit by your comment ... "I'm new to the dot com world" ... WHAT DOES THAT MEAN??? You really have me on that phrase!? And I would love to know!!! (Smile!) Does it mean what I THOUGHT it meant all this time??? Are you "new to computers”?? Golly - I almost hope so - or I'm gonna feel like a real dummy ... speaking "3rd grade talk to a college student" (smile)!! Please again accept my apologies ... and I have finished this JUST IN TIME ... I'm sitting here in tears from pain ... I must lay down ... God Bless - and I DO HOPE YOU FIND MY FAVORITES ..

I know for me - when I can't find something on the computer, and I KNEW it was there - and KNOW it has to be there, I go "nuts"!!! (Smile!) God Bless - and Happy Hunting - I hope you find it!!! But DO find out how to prevent pop-ups - this is done by both your Norton or whatever anti-virus you have programmed on your computer ... and too... there is a "pop-up window" to check wthin Microsoft - but right now - I cannot remember where it is ... I only deal with it "once every 6-9 months, and only occasionally ACCIDENTALLY RUN INTO IT!!

You may try going to "Search" again - and inside the "search box" - typing "Pop-up Blocker" and see if it directs you ... and you may have to read several different sites ... Sorry - but I can't remember where to go!!

I would GUESS - INTERNET - TOOLS - AND INTERNET OPTIONS - OR

GO TO THE SEARCH PAGE - GO THE TOOLS THERE - AND THEN FOLDER OPTIONS ... CRAZY - BUT EACH OF THESE IS AND ARE DIFFERENT SCREENS AND TABS WITHIN THEM!!!

God Bless - Jacquie 'aka twinkle2z'

A COUPLE OF LAST COMMENTS AND THOUGHTS:

HOW TO GO TO 'MY COMPUTER" ...

The "My Computer Icon" on the desktop OR "My Computer" is in the Start Menu, or BOTH. In the START menu, the default for My Computer is on the right side of the two columns, and SHOULD BE VISIBLE: The My Computer icon on the desktop must be inserted thru one of the page toolbar sites ... to APPEAR on the desktop. This is done by going to the DESKTOP. RIGHT CLICK ANYWHERE ON THE DESKTOP SCREEN that is a BLANK AREA with no file folders. SEE a COLUMN OF WORDS, one of which is PROPERTIES. LEFT CLICK on the word PROPERTIES. You will then see a box, entitled DISPLAY PROPERTIES, containing 5 tabs. LEFT CLICK on the tab reading DESKTOP. In THAT tab, there are several 'options' but the "TAB at the top of this box (the first tab and also immediately showing, thus you don't have to click anything to get to it - called "GENERAL TAB" ... at the top of the box are options to CHECK with a left click of the mouse. These options are ICONS to ALWAYS AND AUTOMATICALLY SHOW ON THE DESKTOP; and again, after finishing the checking of same, at the bottom of the box, you LEFT CLICK OK or CLOSE (DON'T RECALL) ... and those icons and options are there for "life" until YOU CHANGE THEM or ELIMINATE ALL or ADD SOME OR ALL. But this is HOW to get to THAT PROPERTY BOX so that "MY COMPUTER" is ALWAYS on the DESKTOP. The choices are MY COMPUTER, MY DESKTOP, MY WEB, and INTERNET EXPLORER.

ALSO A PERSONAL NOTE: At the bottom of the box is a comment and a checkbox to check or uncheck, depending on your desires: It is called a DESKTOP CLEANUP, the purpose is to "automatically Run a Desktop Cleanup on EVERY/ANY FOLDER Every 60 Days" and PERSONALLY ... just because "I" don't USE a desktop icon (or even a shortcut) within a 60 day period, does NOT mean I don't "want it on my desktop". Thus, I have UNCHECKED THIS BOX ... and it is "MY DECISION" when to remove a desktop icon or file ... NOT the computer making that decision!! Personally speaking, "I" like to think that because I purchased my computer, that "I" have SOME SAY on what stays and what doesn't stay and for how long it stays (smile) - not allowing MY COMPUTER to make those "executive decisions" (smile)! Just because I have a desktop shortcut that perhaps I haven't used in 60 days, does NOT mean I don't want it as part of "My Desktop" ... and then "I" will remove it IF and WHEN "I" decide to remove it... without having the computer suddenly eliminating file folders and icons, ... I open my computer, see my desktop and wonder "WHERE IS THAT FOLDER"?? And the folder has only been removed from the desktop - but is still in the same position that it SHOULD BE - whether it be "My Documents" or a program from the start menu that I created a desktop "shortcut" for, etc.

AND - BY THE WAY - JUST A THOUGHT ... SICK I KNOW - BUT ... SMILE ... Is there ANY WAY your "My Favorites" is no longer present because it was been on the DESKTOP LONGER THAN 60 DAYS WITHOUT BEING USED and as just mentioned, could MICROSOFT have removed it as it wasn't used for 60 days and that box is checked to clean up the desktop every 60 days with any files or icons that haven't been used???? JUST A THOUGHT ... SICK AS IT SOUNDS - it is always a possibility!!

Again - God Bless - I MUST LIE DOWN!!!

I DO SO HOPE THE TIME I'VE INVESTED IN THIS ONE HELPS YOU TO LOCATE YOUR FAVORITES!!! Could you let me know???? Thanks! Jacquie
