How do you deal with a spouse who 1.) Has a shopping addiction 2.) Won't admit it 3.) Won't go to cousiling about their problem....

When I tried to talk to her about it she became extremely angry and said Im just trying to controll her.... It has become a monthly occurance for her to drain and overdraw our bank accounts from shopping. We spent a year sacraficing to pay down her 8k in credt card debt so we could buy a house, only for her to turn around and amass 12k of of new credit card debt in less than 5 months! Im at my wits end... she won't get help. What should I do? Is it time to start thinking about moving on?

I really don't know how to answer this question but I went through the exact same thing. I was to addicted to shopping, but I would go everyday. I used my dad's and my own credit cards to buy absolutley everything. My dad didn't mind because he is somewhat wealthy, but my husband did because when I couldn't get hold of my dad's credit cards and when mine were maxed out I took his. This is really an addiction like drugs. My husband spoke to my dad and they took away my credit cards and made me seek counciling. I still love shopping now but I'm not addicted anymore.

I am a shopaholic, My husband has paid off my credit cards in excess of 25,000, and has threatened to leave me numerous times, I'm sure he will some day, I have now racked up an additional 50,000 over the past several years and haven't got a thing to show for it, I know it's a sickness but I guess you have to hit rock bottom. I feel for you and your wife, at least I admit I have a problem. Leaving her will only make her spend more, there's something missing in her life that only shopping will satisfy.. Me, I'm very overweight, it dosen't bother my husband only me, and on those days when I shop like crazy I feel a sence of happiness, really sick isn't it, just be patient with her and try and monitor her spending even if you have to go with her.
