when you go to collage you can fill in a form to see if you qualify for ema....
its based on your parents income....
you could recieve £10 £20 or £30 EACH week!
the problem is half my friends get ema and half (includeing myself) dont get ema.
since the start of collage last year none have my friends have been able to agree about wether it is fair for some people have it and some dont. they also have differant issues and ideas on the situation of ema as the system seems to sugests that those that get it are poor drop outs and those that dont, dont need it as their parents pay for everything. wih is not true on weither side.
what are your opinions on the situation????

Kids from poorer families have greater pressure to begin earning money, as often their parents cannot afford to pay the rent, bills etc. ema means that kids from families like this can continue studying full time and still help their parents with bills. This may only apply in very severe case though.
Also, at the ages of 16-18 stuff like clothes become a lot more expensive, as do fares. Poorer parents often cant cope with this extra expenditure, and so ema means that the kids themselves can pay for all their fares and essentials, rather than having to rely on their parents.
I got the full £30 ema at sixth form, and to be honest, without it i wouldn't have really been able to cope without it.

I personally think everyone should be able to claim something so that at least you feel as if you have some money of your own. I think teenagers should be rewarded for staying in education.
