Do you guess why ron stick has opposite effect on him in harry potter&chambers of secret?

if u have read the book . when harry and ron crash into the whomping willow (the giant tree ) rons wand snaps and thats why whenever he performs a spell his wand keeps backfiring. so when he aims at draco , the spell backfires and he ends up puking slugs.

I think its becoz his wand is broken if thts not the reason.Do you kno what it is then?
