Well, first of all make sure you are really ready to quit, that is the most important step.
Now, you just keep telling I have not smoked for 10 minutes I can wait another 10 when that time is up remind yourself how long you waited and you can wait another amount of time.
Do some sort of hobby or busy work, I used Knitting as my busy work and made a few dollars while I was at it.
I also quit(after smoking for half my life) for Lent one year and prayed every day that I could quit, That lasted for five years.
I was stupid and started again when I got about five HUGE life changing stressers at once. I smoked for two years this time.
I have quit again and I am on my third smoke free month.
Good luck to you, but make sure you are ready or nothing will work for you.

To quit smoking, U need will power and sacrifice. Your will power must be strong and will tell " NO " to any offer or urge of smoking a cigarrette. When U are ready to quit, do not quit totally. U will not be able to bear the withdrawal symptoms. The symptoms is terrible and it will force U to smoke again. Do it gradually.
1, Set a zone to your smoking habit -eg-will not smoke after meal.Once U can control this habit, go for the next zone.and next zone and next zone until U only left 03 stick of cigarrettes to smoke in a day. Make this sticks the last puff and discard your lighter, ash tray and etc.
2 Control your urge of smoking. Don't ever touch the cigarrette anymore.
3. Everytime U have the urge to smoke chew grapes not sweets.
The grapes will help U to rinse your mouth and remove narcotine .Sweet will eventually cause U to have toothache.
4. Avoid eating too much, at this point of time U have a tremendous appetite. Control your eating habit and eat lots of vegetables.
5, Do exercise - This is to keep your weight down, otherwise, U will be facing another health problem.
6. If U are able to sacrifice your smoking habit for 3 months, U can safely say that U already quit smoking. At this point of time U no longer have the urge to smoke. However, my advise to U, after U quit, never, never again touch the cigarrette. Otherwise your effort will go to the drain, U will start to smoke again after the first puff. This time, U will smoke more then before.

This is just my POV but try the patches rather than the gum cos I've heard you can get addicted to the gum and also get a hobby. If you have a hobby you're less likely to need a smoke in your hands. My dad can go a whole day without smoking when he's working but on his days off he gives steam trains a run for their money. Right now I'm looking at three cups and an ashtray full of smokes. cos of the christmas holidays hes not working. So get a hobby which needs concentration and to use your hands and try the patches.

you can quit smokin little by little....i think what you should do is to lessen the sticks per day or per week at first let say you take 30 sticks in a day, then after 3 days or a week you take 3 sticks less so that's 27 seven on your second week and so on until you really stopped smoking....or instead of smoking you busy yourself with stuffs like sports..

I have managed to quit smoking but only 46 days the first time and 30 days the second time. . .been working on it since August this year and I AM going to do it.
I started out dreading the worst but actually got the best results I had ever hoped.
Because it went too easy I got too comfortable and let that false sense of accomplishment foul me up.
I started out avoiding those people, places and things that contributed to my smoking.
I quit taking my outside breaks to smoke.
I avoided drinking coffee with my meals as I would usually smoke with that coffee.
I stayed outside as much as I could working in my yard etc.
I quit praying and asking God for help and thanking him at night for helping me and I quit avoiding those people, places and things in my false sence of accomplishment.
I fell back into my old ways.
I have smoked for 36yrs and having quit like I did for those short periods of time I KNOW I can do it again and I know where I went wrong.
I also used nicotine gum and my favorite gum for those tough times but this time I intend to go COLD TURKEY and quit dragging out the process.
They say that it takes 72hours to get past the nicotine craving and I know I can do this IF I rely on those protocols I mentioned and realize as I do with my alcohol recovery I have to do this everyday,One Day at a Time for the rest of my life.
If you fail, don't beat yourself up because everyday without nicotine is a good day.
When you make a day without nicotine, just tell yourself as I did myself when I was really making my efforts. . .If I do today what I did yesterday,I do not have to smoke.
GOOD LUCK
