When I was younger, I sang songs (not so great a voice, but love to sing) that were "cool" or had a good beat. Then I had kids and realized what some of the songs I sing really mean!
Now, I'm very selective about what we listen to, and also what I sing.

In most cases I do not listen to what I am singing. It is automatic and as long as I know the tune, the words fill in themselves. It is only when I step back and read the lyrics or the words that I make meaning of the song.

half of the time no, its mostly the beat. for example I hate what Beyonce is saying in "check on it" those lyrics are very degrading to women, but I love the video, and I love the beat and melodies. The songs I actually listen to are the songs I play for relaxation or when I need to think: alot of these artists aren't even popular, goes to show you how the music industry has changed tremendously.

Some do listen, some do not. For the younger generation, I don't believe they are understanding all the lyrics though.

I am not sure what you mean. Do you mean do I hear how bad I am? then yes. Or, do you mean do I listen and try to get the words? Then, also yes.
