As far as I am concerned the P.C. brigade can take a running jump. I am English, born in England and I will not have people less intelligent than myself telling me what I can say or think.I call a black-board so, because that is what it is, and that is the word I was taught for it. I say baa-baa-black sheep, because that is how the rhyme was written.I say Happy Christmas, because it is Christmas in England and always was to christian people, and always will be.When I was young I had a golly and a teddy and a white doll and a black doll and a Barbie, why should I now have to change what I call any of them? As for gollies, several years ago I knitted one for a neighbours` 4 year old, since then I have knitted at least sixteen more. All of these were requests from Mums whose child had seen this golly and wanted one knitted, because they had not been able to buy one in a toy-shop!! As long as kiddies want them, I shall knit them. By the way, I also knit sheep cows rabbits,Giraffes, lions what ever the child wants, their Mums` buy the wool and materials and I knit them free of charge. I don`t charge because it appears that you are not allowed to"sell" a golliwog! So as I do them free I do the same with all the other toys. This P.C. world is unbelievable !!

The banning of the golly wog was a bit over the top, considering nobody has yet banned Barbie because of her over-sized boobs.
Never heard of banning the word blackboard. Most teachers now use whiteboards, and are very grateful for the change - chalk dries out the skin.
Season's greetings is a good option for people who are particularly Christian, but still like to contact old friends once a year. For true Christians, (if there are any) Happy Xmas is a big no-no. It's leaving Christ out of Christmas.

pc brigade?
ban the golly wog?
blackboard seasonal greetings?

No idea what you're talking about. And who are 'us'? You can't use the word 'us' if you don't explain what is meant by that.

Thanks for the explanation, I'm no native speaker, so I missed out on that one :)
I think the most of these banishments are made by oversensitive people. Yes, there's been discrimination of black people, but I think it's nonsense to banish the word blackboard, it sounds like a slippery slope, where also black pudding, blackmail or blacklist are terms that might be 'forbidden' or deemed unpolitically correct. It's usually people who feel victimised that call out for these things. On the one hand, they *are* victims to discrimination, and a country should do anything to abolish that. On the other hand, they should realise that black sometimes only means black, it's just a word for a colour.
Also the seasonal greetings vs Christmas conflict I find oversensitive. Why would people be insulted by the word christmas. It's a pagan feast, that was taken by the christian church and is now taken by commercialism. It's only a feast, which has a broad tradition behind it. Just enjoy it, or don't if you don't like it. And if someone sends you a card to wish you well, who cares what's on the other side?

There is no X in CHRISTmas. If people don`t have the courage to say Christ, why do they even celebrate Christmas? It`s a well known fact that Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus. If people don`t believe in Christ, why do they even celebrate? Thats like throwing me a big Birthday party, but not inviting me.People are nuts!!
