We are expected to pay about £120 each year for total crap, and i have no doubt the the tv that will shown during christmas will be the same as we have seen before.

I feel for you - in Germany we have to pay €17.96 a month for even worse crap. At least you have the BBC.

Oddly enough (if you're a Europhobe), the European Commission is your only chance for relief here. Several private TV operators have filed suit that the TV licence and its equivalents in other EU countries are an unfair subsidy to a state-owned enterprise. The decision is due sometime next spring.
