I believe its because the photoreceptors and optic nerve are still being stimulated, similar to how your eyes get from a camera flash. The question is, how long does it last and can you still see these flashes at night or in a dark room?

I had the same but mine were red and green. It turns out I had Irlen syndrome. Long story everybody thought I was stupid all my life because I got tired after reading one page of text. I got special lenses that blocked out red and green light and low and behold I can now sit down and read a novel in 3-4 hours, I have gotten a degree and masters and people treat me like I am intelligent. For more info go to www.irlen.com and see how intelligent you really are.

I have done that before never figured it out, I heard once it could be high blood pressure and once some one told me I was going blind but I think it was a joke because I still can see.. lol but I wouldnt worry too much about it.
