I drive a 1984 Ford Ranger 98,000 miles yesterday coming home I heard a thud thud from the right rear end then the engine started to deexcelerate speed after about 10 seconds it kicked back in I went into the store came out a hour later and on the way home it did it again the first time I was going up hill the 2nd time on flat road

Just guess with what you have told us that you have a bad "U" joint

Fix or repair daily,FORD- better have a serious look at that problem,is it a 4x4 with a transfer case?
